I'm new to posting on the forum here but have really appreciated all of the content these discussions typically bring out. I'm looking to pull the trigger on a 200 series LC in the next week or so and wanted to get feedback from those folks who have had the '16 and '17 model years and their experiences removing the monitors on the back of the front seats.

I know there's a cover created and available because of another thread here, and wondered if those folks who have removed and covered the gaping wound in the back of the seat recommend going with an '18 model year to alleviate the headache. It seems to be simply a cosmetic issue once fixed with the cover but was interested to hear some first hand experiences if possible, thanks in advance!

They come off really easy. I'd recommend the covers. You can have both off and covers on in 10 minutes. Screens aside, buy as new and as low of miles as your budget allows.

Thanks a lot for the note and information, I really appreciate it. Sounds like you've done this on your '16, is it annoying enough that you would recommend getting an '18 purely from a cosmetic perspective, with price and mileage being negligible?

Depends on what you are doing with the backseats. The covers are fine. If you don't have kids and will never use them, an 18 would great, but I wouldn't let it be a decision maker. The molded covers are fine. Buy the best rig you can find.

Much appreciated, thank you!

I have the Trekboxx covers, and highly recommend them. They were the first thing I did to my ‘16. I absolutely would NOT get an ‘18 just to avoid this. An ‘18 would be nice for other reasons, but the ‘16 is a nice way to get into this generation of the 200.

Thanks a lot for your note on this, I really appreciate it. I’m debating between a ‘17 and ‘18 right now with roughly the same used mileage.

I’m curious why you say and ‘18 would be nice for other reasons, outside of course of being newer. Thanks again!

I took them off of a 16 I used to have and the covers look fine. It took 5 minutes to remove the headrests. I now have a 19 that did not have the screens. I wouldn't pay any attention to whether an LC has them or not. Its not an issue.

Any noticeable differences between your ‘16 and ‘19, good or bad?

I am quite happy with my ‘16, but the ‘18 got some additional gizmos that some folks like. It has the auto open tailgate, different touch technology on the infotainment. It has updated kdss shutter valve screws (maybe not better, but updated), and late ‘18 already have the updated radiator design. They are likely to be lower mileage since they are newer (of course that isn’t always true, but it is more likely given typical usage patterns).
