Well after a 4ish year hiatus, I am back in a GX! This is my first 460. My last one was a '05 470 which I sold with 275k miles. Since then I've been driving an '11 LX which I plan on holding onto for the time being. However the GX will be my primary daily driver as well as road trip vehicle.

It's a '13 GX Premium in silver on black two-owner vehicle that has always been in the central NC area. It's got 195k miles, but I had it checked through and overall felt good about the decision.

Now my plan is to baseline it and take care of anything that needs to be addressed starting with the suspension. During the PPI, they found the front driver shock to be leaking so I know that has to be dealt with. I plan on replacing both front shocks. While that is being done and without completely busting the bank, what other front end suspension parts should I prioritize? Tie rods, lower control arm bushings, upper shock mounts? What about KDSS bushings? I am getting a very slight clunk on very rough roads when driving under 20 MPH. I feel it when pulling out of the driveway ramp which causes the vehicle to rock slightly. I'm also getting a slight shake around 70 MPH and a bit of a shutter when braking at high speeds (this could just be warped rotors).

Luckily the rear air suspension seems to be holding up. I haven't noticed any sagging in the rear when parked for long periods. I plan on keeping the suspension OEM for the time being. I contemplated going with something like an Eibach or OME kit, but I decided to hold off.

I'll be driving this vehicle across the country in about a month so I want to make sure its in good shape. The radiator was replaced a few years ago, but its on the original water pump so I plan to replace that and the serpentine belt. Coming from a 570, there are a lot of mechanical similarities and weakpoints, so other parts that come to mind are the starter and alternator.

Any advice and pointers are much appreciated! I've been reading through a bunch of forums and Facebook posts regarding this platform. Very excited to be back in the GX corner!

Looks great! If you do a water pump and belt, go ahead and replace the idler pulley and tensioner. I'd put a sharpie mark on the coolant reservoir when the engine is cold and monitor the coolant level. Does it have any maintenance history? Did you run the VIN on LexusDrivers.com to check for history? I'd want to know if transmission and diffs have been serviced. When you do the front shocks I'd replace the shock mounts too.

Nice rig! Congrats on your newer GX!
Take it to a good suspension shop with a lot of 4-5 star reviews.
Do you have mod's planned for it? Tires or??
One thing I'd suggest would be getting an OBDII Bluetooth so when you're traveling, especially going over steep grades, you can monitor both your transmission temps along engine temperature. There's a lot of very good live data when driving with an OBDII Bluetooth connected to your phone.
It will even see individual tire pressures and temperatures.
I swear by mine!

Much appreciated! I'll add those shock mounts, idler pulley, and tensioners to my cart. Looks like the Lexus 17.76% sale just started today so good timing.

I did run the VIN through the Lexus website and was able to pull the records for everything up until about 90k miles. The owner I purchased it from began taking it to an indy mechanic around that point and provided me with the records from that shop so I have basically all of the history. It doesn't appear that the transmission or diffs have been serviced yet. For the transmission, would it be risky to try a drain and fill at this mileage? I know a lot of shops get nervous if it hasn't been done regularly starting at a lower mileage.

Thanks, I'm definitely glad to be back in one! I'll be making some calls with week to find a shop that knows these pretty well. I'd like a place that is familiar with the KDSS system.

Not planning on heavily modding in the short term, although a new set of wheel and tires could be in the cards. Also potentially a roof rack and amber fogs (for driving in the snow).

I'll check out those OBDII modules you mention. Do you have the name of the one you use? Sounds like that would definitely come in handy. I have one called Carly from years ago that seem to be focused around BMWs. Maybe that one is compatible, I'll have to check.

+1 on replacing the idler and tensioner.

This is what I use, along with several of the forum members:

Regarding the trans fluid. I'm of the opinion that if changing trans fluid would be detrimental to your trans, then its on its last legs anyway. I'd do several drain and fills. Usually get about 3 quarts when you do that. Do one, drive around for a week. Then another. Then repeat 1 or 2 more times. Easy to do and there are videos on it. @Acrad has a very good write up in Club Lexus I think.

That makes perfect sense. There is definitely no true "lifetime" fluid in my opinion.

Indeed. That's more of a planned obsolescence from automakers.
