First time I needed to get stuff from the back passenger seats in the middle of nowhere and very dark I noticed that opening the back doors (neither left or right) fails to turns the interior lights on.
Is this one of the many maladies that plages the FZJ80?
I played with the door sensor switch a bit and the driver side sort of work, but not consistently. I don't think is dirt becuase the swithces have a ver good boot to protect them.
I don't have this problem with the front doors or the rear hatch.
Is there a quick fix for this?

Thanks,

It might be the swtiches. Even though you have the boot on there, the contacts can get very dirty. You might want to search the archives to confirm, but I think most replace the swtiches.

If you had a later truck I would say make sure the aft dome light (above 2nd row) is set to "door" and that the bulb is not burned out.

Can’t remember the details, there is a difference between the later and earlier 80's the later 80's the front doors control the front dome, and rear doors and rear hatch control the rear dome, I think the earlier trucks both domes come on with any door?

Witch way is the 94?

I have some odd things going on too, RHS door's dont turn on the int. lights LHS does, Also the lights go out...However if you move the bulb it works for a week or so, Ive tried dialetic*sp grease and it didnt seem to help, I know its not a big deal, Just a comment.
Good luck

My 94 both the front and center dome lights turn on opening any door and the hatch

Just to check that its not the bulb, because I had a bad bulb that would intermitantly work. Swap it with the front dome light bulb and see if you have the problem up front and the center dome should be fine. If you have the problem still for the center dome its probably the switches. I know one of mine has got stuck a few times, so I just push it a few times and used compressed air on it.

You need to replace the switch. It wears out.

It's prob the switch in the door frame as these guys said. Happened to my 97. Disassemble the rubber boot and switch and clean it out. Took about a day of opening and the cleaner took hold and they work fine now.

I just took the bolts out to get access to the switch and squirted a little wd40 in my rear switch and had been working fine since. I didn't disasseble it, just squirted wd40 in there. Guess it just cleared some of the crud out of it.
