I'm in the process of plumbing the cooling system on my 40 series with a b engine.
Under the Thermostat housing is an outlet that goes somewhere?
When I got the truck it had a rubber plug clamped over it.
What does this outlet connect to?

I think a similar setup on the 2h. It goes back to the water pump. In your first pic there looks to be a hose outlet which is also blocked off the same/similar size coming from the water pump.
Lifetime ago I had a bj40 b engine and pvo did the same from memory. Maybe remote and if the coolant was neglected and the rubber perishes and things rust and leak develops. To get home both are temporarily blocked. Life gets in the way, car still still works continue with the two outlets blocked off. As a guess.

But better if someone shows their b engine setup.

But perhaps you have a return hose going from the thermostat housing to the water pump on the other side, which is visible in the pic. And what I can see is just a bolt in a bracket. Have you got an fsm?

Yes bit of a puzzle.

It's one of the connections to the oil cooler. I'll try and get a photo from my B engine.

Maybe Canadian delivered B engines didn't have the external oil cooler and do not use this port?

You are correct. The other hose does connect to the water pump. It was a bit tricky to try and get everything in the photos. Hope you're getting on top of it!

Yes very neat job indeed. It's interesting in comparison to the 2h oil cooler which is a larger jacket bolted against the block, coolant runs from the block instead of the thermostat housing. If the coolant is not maintained the aluminium oxidises.
