Phil -

got any trail pics of anywhere in my neck of the woods? Looking for inspiration for Ms. Navigator.

Romero pools in Catalina State Park...need to hike but worth it IMO

Check out Garden Canyon on the Fort Huachuca military base, very family friendly...Yes on the military base:) Arguably the most beautiful in the Huachuca Mountains, very little traffic, pictographs, historic cabin, picnic areas, all varieties of wildlife, and some good wheeling at the end to get to the upper pool. Also Huachuca Canyon on the base, better 4wheeling also very little traffic.

Miller Peak Wilderness FR368 very cool in summer at ~8500'

Permits needed?

NONE -Pull up and tell them where you want to go and present your drivers license, proof of insurance, vehicle registration and you are good to go.

You will drive by the grenade training area, long distance rifle range and such.

Make sure you get the cheap gas while on base:hillbilly:

If you are into old mine machinery, you can combine walks with drives into the Lutz Mine and the Pomona Mine on the east side of the Huachucas. The old engine and compressor are at the Lutz Mine. I have more photos and a write up under 2007 trips Lutz and Pomona Mine at www.backcountryadventures.com The third photo is a great old engine that I stumbled onto recently in the Catalina Mountains. More info can be found under 2010 trips "A Drive and walk into an old mine area in the Catalina Mountains

Be sure to WEAR THE SEATBELT and DON'T SPEED. Was down there for a camping event about a month ago, and about a dozen or so of the non-military folks got tickets. They ain't kidding about the rules on base.

Holy Moly, there were literally over 150 people there yesterday when i took some Scouts there. Mostly well behaved, families and such, but man, what a crowd... We found a more private swimming hole along the trail that runs by the creek, and jumped off some rocks. Only three other people there.

When I first found the falls about 28 years ago (back when I was single;)) you could spend all day there naked, have some fun and never worry about anyone showing up.

@LandCruiserPhil - That's just because they saw you first and never stopped!

Sunday's paper had an article about the over crowding up there. Hinted that next year it may well be a permit only area.

Understand many lack the confidence and cant measure up

This may explain the Big Foot sightings in the area and the legendary Mogollon Monster.

We applaud your willingness to "let it all hang out"

Im sure you're making a "mountain our of a small molehill" lol
