I was wanting to extend my axle and transfer case vent lines to the top of the firewall. Easy and cheap mod for a Sat. afternoon.

1. What type of line (tubing) should I use?

2. Do I just connect the new line to the existing metal fitting with the squeeze clamps?

3. How have you guys been running the line to the firewall?

4. What should I attach the lines to once at the firewall?

Finally, is there a forum about this easy mod. somewhere that I am missing.

Cheers,

Benji

It says in that link that the nissan stem does NOT fit land cruisers.

So who is right here?

About 25 feet of fuel line hose,
A couple of hose clamps,
Some zip ties,
A couple small cheapo fuel filters on the firewall.

A couple  while you enjoy your handy work.

If you want to get really fancy you can put an extended beather on the fuel pump diaphram vent too. Small piece of copper tube JBwelded into the vent hole, more fuel line, hose clamp and another filter.

Can I just replace the existing hose with an extended one and clamp it directly to the OEM vent fitting? Seems reasonable.

Absolutely

You got it !

Jim or anybody for that matter,
Is the fuel filter on the end of the breather line necessary? Is its purpose just to keep junk out of the breather lines. Isn't the purpose of the breathers to keep pressure from building up inside the axle housing, in otherwords they breathe out? I ask because a previous owner did the beather extensions on my fj62 and had the two lines "T'd" together with one filter. I removed the filter because I thought all it was doing was inhibiting breathing?

Thanks.

kevin g, you can keep the filter on there as long as air can freely pass. Try to blow through the filter, if it does not require much pressure to force air through you should be fine. I was going to try and rig a OEM Toyota LC fuel filter up to the end of the breather lines. It could work as a spare if ever needed. Have not really looked into it too much yet, but hope to have it done by a week or so. I'll let you know how it goes.

cheers

Kevin you're entirely right.

It took me about two years to put the little filters on. For a while I used the factory ends however these are know to stick closed causing pressure to build up. (They can be modified to flow better by removing the spring check valve inside.)

In the long run, the small filters are an easy soltuion to keep "stuff" out of the vent lines. They also give a "finished" look instead of having loose hose ends tied to the firewall.
