I am in the process of removing my front axle and can not get the axle nut to loosen up on either side. I got through the cone washer problem without a hitch and have cleaned out the grease for a better view. I have bent back the washer tabs but can not get the nut to budge even a small fraction. I have just about destroyed the SOR axle nut tool trying to torque it out. Anyone have similar problem or am I missing some step?

Never heard of this problem??? Soak it down with PB blaster over night and give it another try in the am.

I have done that. I do not know how it could be a rust problem as its completely covered in grease.

54 mm or 2 1/8 in a pinch. Thats what i am looking for now. Threads look perfect from the edge and it wont move in either direction on either side so I dont think its kinked. I also cant understand why or if someone previous would have torqued it down this tight. I am just trying to make sure I didnt miss some kind of locking device. From what I have read its the cone washers that can be difficult not the axle locking nut.

yea the cone washer is the real gripe but the nuts should come right off. I hate to say this but if you are turning(which i am sure you are) the right direction and nothing is happening no matter how much power you put on it ....clean it real good and look for dirt a spot weld...never seen it done but there is always a first.

I know this is obvious, but just in case -- The lock washer between the two nuts has a locking flap for the inner and outer nut - You are just trying to loosen the outer nut ?

And, now I don't know why someone would do this, but maybe they used loctite on the nut ?? Maybe try a little heat? It's possible they used an air gun too --

Its time to breakout the Hammer and Chisel.....

Flaps on the lock nut wont let you get over both of the nuts, but yes I am just working on the outside nut. Got a hammer and punch out and no luck there. As soon as I pick up the 2 1/8 socket I am going to use a 6 foot cheater bar and pull like hell.

:whoops:jebus good luck.....seriously thinking someone in fact used some thread locker or something.

Picked up the 2 1/8 socket at sears but had to also buy a 3/4 breakover bar as they had no 1/2 to 3/4 adapters. Always something. I think the girl rang it up wrong though because the socket and breakover bar together were 52 bucks

Righty Tighty Lefty Loosy I know thats not the issue but I thought I would throw it out there anyway.

Dynosoar

When all else fails.... put a little heat on the outer nut with the torch........

I had a similar problem on the output flange nuts on my T-Case. I tried just like you are with a big-arse cheater bar with no luck. I used an Air - Impact wrench and it came right off !!!

Find a buddy with a compressor and an impact wrench that should get it off.

Tried to use a heat gun but I am a little worried about using a flame with all the grease and oil in there.
