An awesome presentation of the 70-Series short wheelbase Soft Top model (published on the French website journaldu4x4.com):

I will never finance another new vehicle again, only did one 20yrs ago.

However if we could get the SWB ST and the pickup. I would be down there tomorrow signing up for car paymets. 🤗

Cheers

And same site also has a presentation of a FZJ71 ;)

Two very fun beasts =)
Autrement dit: des vrais "oiseaux rares", au moins dans notre monde occidental...
Merci bien pour l' observation Félix!

In other words: these are really "rare birds" in our (western) world, unfortunately, dear SNLC ...

Hello,

For that price on the FZJ71 one would expect manual hubs...

It is good to see that there are still FZJ71s out there in good shape with low mileage.

Are these perhaps hiding under the front center caps.

I don't know what happens to the GRJ71 in the article, it has garage/proto licence plate so not sure if it even got registered in France or even Europe in the end (never heard of it in the TLC community here).
But that would be possible, since the the HZJ7* are no more importable in Europe (2016) the grey importer succeeded to register GRJ7* and a few GRJ78, GRJ79 and GRJ76 are imported each years in France (and the same in our neighbors) but don't know if someone would pay this high cost for a pure fun vehicle which is the GRJ71 (and then not bring it in any TLC event).

For the FZJ71 the story I heard is it's part of a set of 3 that kind of landed in Europe for unknow reason and the company that imported HZJ7* in France bought them. The 3 triplets have the same spec, 1 blue with strips, 1 blue without strips and 1 white with strips. My understanding is they were sold non-registered as nothing was existing to hack them in conformity and each original buyer handled the registration who knows how.

- The blue with strips seen in journal4x4 article was registered in Belgium and from what I heard would be in Luxembourg nowadays but not 100% sure.

- The blue without strips was sold to Monaco and then came back to France. It was for sale last year, not sure if someone bought it, it was expensive (36k€ asked) and had been converted to LPG (...), 56000km on the clock.
Article on this one when it was living in Monaco: Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ71 - Les essais - 4rouesmotrices.com - http://www.4rouesmotrices.com/essais/Toyota/essai_288_Toyota_Land_Cruiser_FZJ71.php

- The white with strips was kept by the owner of the import company. He crashed it and rolled it, it seems that the power of the 1FZ-fe on the rear wheels of a SWB leaf sprung vehicle can be a bit tricky. The powerplant, transmission and axles have been transferred in a FJ40 that was for sale not so long ago (but this would be an illegal vehicle in France).

Il me semble qu'on a besoin d'un vrai Service d' Information (voire même d' espionnage) pour suivre le trajectoire de ces bels engins au vieux continent...😎
Merci Félix de partager...et à+

It seems that one needs the services of the...Intelligence Service in order to track down such rare birds on the old continent...😎
Thank you Felix for sharing...and keep the information flow going!

PS. Content de lire que le rédacteur, Alain Ouachée (l' enfant terrible de la scène Toyotiste dans l' hexagone), ne cesse pas à nous surprendre!

PS. Glad that the author, Alain Ouachée (the enfant terrible of the Cruiser community in France), doesn't cease to surprise us!

Although the short wheelbase GRJ71 is still (brand new) on sale in the Middle East:

however, the ST model seems to have disappeared...
Last seen in 2016?

Based on my search: the dealers can sell Soft top if you order 15+ cars. Toyota makes it on the special orders. Sad
