Well, I decided to install an auxiliary battery to run some aftermarket accessories. Some of you have already gone this route and I'd like to hear your suggestions.

Now that the tire has been moved from underneath, I was considering that as a possible location. Good/bad idea?

Thanks!

don,

Vince at IPOR installed my dual batts, he may have some suggestions for you.

Sbly is the only person who has done this so far.

Personally, I like dual batteries to be accessible. While sbly's are accessible, I'm not sure if under the vehicle could be defined as such. You would have to run some lengthy wires as well.

I'm not a huge fan of the over-under design, but it appears to be all that we can do. Putting a battery on the PS is an option, but I'm not even sure it will fit.

I think IPOR is our best shot at doing this...now if only we can convince them to manufacture a custom bracket and/or (even better) complete conversion kit.

The downfall really is that it only works with an ARB front bumper. This setup is not easy to install, it requires a fair bit of sweat and patience.

I don't remember what detail sbly went into when describing his setup, but the battery separator is installed under the core support plastic. It is mounted betweeen the grill and radiator. When the plastic is installed you can't see the separator.

What we would have liked to do, is put the aux battery on the passenger side of the engine bay. It would only require lengthing the two hoses to the P/S resevoir and fabricating a bracket. We did not do this, to avoid any hassle with the dealer(they not very smart), they like to blame aftermarket accessories when there is a problem.

If there is enough interest, we will put a kit together.

We will most likely be using sbly's truck for the mock up of the engine bay bracket. If that is ok with him of course!

If you do a kit, it would be great to make it for the passenger side. where the DRL power regulator is and move the power steering fluid reservoir.

IMO, if there is a kit on the market, the dealership is less likely to apply blame to that component.

Also, remember the magnuson moss warranty act. If they give you s***, tape it to your foot and shove it up their asses. (sorry to be so blunt, but sometimes such actions are necessary with dealerships -- especially when they don't know the law.)

Thanks for the responses! Boy, a kit for the passenger side would be awesome. Accessibility is a high priority and havine both batteries close at hand is top choice. Now to convince IPOR!

I'm in!

Count me in for a kit also............lets do it!

i have talked to one of the "higher ups" and he seemed like a kit would be a good idea.

i will let him know that there is interest in a kit.

Sbly, we will use your truck when you drop it off for the work. (do you need 3 batteries? Ha ha...)

Woo hoo!!! It would be great if you offered it as a "complete" kit including the battery clamps/holder, all hoses necessary to extend the power steering reservoir (if necessary), extended brackets for said reservoir, surepower isolator, all cables, in cab switching, extra battery LCD monitor, etc.

If you guys were able to pull this off, I'm sure it would be one of the cleanest kits on the market!

Thanks for listening to our demands :grinpimp:

JB, just to clarify, are you wanting a kit similar to sbly's install, or one for the passenger side? I had to re-read your post and I think its for a p-side kit.

Vince, the kit you are considering will be like sbly's or for the passenger side? I'm thinking like sbly's since your wanting to dup his braket.

Sorry if I'm the only one needing clarification, late in the evening for me I've had one too many cups of joe.

We would build a kit to fit the battery on the passenger side of the engine bay.

I need Sbly's truck to build a bracket with. I don't have any other 200 series customers that are coming in for more work soon.

the only real problem i am going to run into, is the P/S resevoir, and the lengthing of the hoses that will be neccessary for the kit.

when i get the truck i will try and take another approach with the resevoir.

this "putting a kit together" is going to take just a bit(couple of months)to get all worked out.

The PAssenger side kit would be best and much more universal.

A few months huh? :crybaby: I don't know if I can wait that long and may have to do my own by then! :frown:

We are so swamped at the shop right now, i wish i could spend the time on the kit asap, but not in the cards.

build your own setup, and share how it works for you. Seeing different setups always helps other people decide what they like better.

Are you trying to tell me that a Aux Battery setup for a 200 series is not TOP PRIORITY for your shop?

Shame.....:p

Thanks for clarifying. Slow brain syndrome...:bang:

I've got bad news...........

My schedule with Sbly's truck is gonna be tight, and i may not be able to mock up a bracket.

I will try, but i wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm in for one if you guys pull off a kit for the passenger's side...
