Looks great man! Those welded "wings" are exactly what my trailer needs to be proper... For now I'm going to just build brackets for propane, jerry cans, etc out of wood. Where you have yours would be great on mine, then a fender could be attached and look pro. I have a friend that can weld and when he comes back in town we may be able to fit it into the schedule...

Maybe I missed it but why didn't you tie the front to the rear with the center spine? Your weak point is over the axle plus if you had to get yanked out by the rear receiver it could jack the frame square.

Yes that would have made more sense. But my plan is to mount a fuel, or water tank just above the axle, under the bed. Any suggestions are well received as this is my first trailer build. I

Just be aware of axle travel. I put my water tank above the floor. I'm afraid I'll punch a hole in it.
Yeah my thoughts also. This whole mounting the tank under is becoming problematic. I really like the Drifta trailer kitchen setup, so I am having a hard time figuring out where to put water storage. I think for fuel, I will get one of those tank/storage boxes for the tongue of the trailer. A ballast of sorts. I suppose I could just get some nato water cans and mount those in various locations.

Yes, that was the (and may be) the plan. But after staring at this thing in the garage I am starting to think that building doors into the trailer as you have done (with all the added structure needed) will be just to much weight. Plus one of your previous posts stating "why did you cut the receiver half way", got me thinking "s*** its probably not strong enough now to hold the tank in that spot" This thing is all steel (14G floor 16G sides) vs your aluminum skinned setup. I have to have some way of mounting an offroad fridge in the thing, so I thought Drifta trailer slide out design would fit the bill. In the end I am just going to have to go for it and hope for the best outcome. I have the frame done now.
Trailers on hold for a week, time to go turkey/bear hunting for a week. Thanks for your advice much appreciated. Cheers!

Very curious here.... I drag a minimalist 4x6 trailer with a 3500 lb axle that supports matching wheels and tires to our 450... I did the math years ago and fully loaded, comes in at around 900 lbs.. 17 gal of petro, 30 gallons of water, kitchen, food and gear.. 150 lbs of tongue weight.. All in all very nicely balanced for a good straight tow.. With that amount of petro we have,an approx 400 mile range... Generally speaking 6 days out before having to head to a town to replenish our supplies and very rarely having to use the third 5 gal of gas... We also use gas for cooking and lighting, using 2 1 gal cans of non-ethanol.. You are mounting a 40 gallon capacity petro tank which gives you approx a 700 mile range.. Have you considered that may be overkill for North American trips? That's just a lot of weight that may not be necessary.. Just a thought...

Very good points. Plans for this thing are ever evolving.

Anybody think I need to reinforce any other spots on this thing before I flip it and build upwards?

Get those rims on Hayden

Hayden.. That's funny, ran into him yesterday. Not yet, I decided to paint them. I will post up some pics this weekend. I got the trailer all skinned up. Almost ready for primer. Thanks again for mailing those! Take it easy on fat boy this weekend.

Any progress?

I have the fenders skinned now but no pictures yet.

Frame is 27 inches from ground. I installed the bulldog jack with 10.5 caster wheel. Next up is the tailgate.

My plan is to use 1"x 2" for the end gate. My spare will mount on gate. It will swing towards passenger side. I plan on using 2 bullet hinges. But I am having a hard time deciding on what latches to use. It needs to be lockable? The gate will seal on the floor against 1x angle iron. The lid will provide the top seal mounting point. Any thoughts trailer experts?
