Just picked up a 2006 and the current ECU programming has the auto lock/auto unlock function turned on and is set to lock all 5 locks (4 doors and the rear hatch) when the shifter is moved out of the P position. Also, when the driver moves the shifter back into the P position the car auto unlocks all 5 locks.

I simply want to turn this function(s) off and have searched the mud posts and read where other users have tried several times but usually are usually successful in the end. Personally thus far I have not been successful at following the instruction in the owners manual.

The following is verbatim from the owners manual for a 2006 Land Cruiser:

"You can set or cancel the automatic door locking functions: Be sure to apply the parking brake when performing the following operations. To select the locking linked with the shift position:
1. Close all doors and turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Shift the selector lever to the “P” position.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the “ON” position, press and hold the driver’s side power door lock switch in the lock position for 5 seconds and then release. The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set.

To cancel the function, do the above operation again."

I understand the dealer can access the OBDII and use techstream to program these functions but I am trying to avoid the stealership as much as possible. Anybody want to take a stab at what I may be doing wrong? The verbage in the instructions leaves a few important factors up the imagination of the user and really I can follow instrutions but need some clarity.

You have 4 options 2 for locking, and 2 for unlocking:

You can set or cancel the automatic door locking functions:
Be sure to apply the parking brake when performing the following operations.

A) To select the locking linked with the shift position:
To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

B) To select the locking linked with the vehicle speed:
1. Close all doors and turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Shift the selector lever from “P” to the “N” position.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the “ON” position, press and hold the driver’s side power door lock switch in the lock position for 5 seconds and then release. The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set. To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

AUTOMATIC DOOR UNLOCKING You can select the following functions:
Unlocking linked with the ignition switch All doors are automatically unlocked when the the driver’s door is opened within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position, or the key is removed.

Unlocking linked with the shift position All doors are automatically unlocked when the selector lever is moved to “P” position.
You can set or cancel the automatic unlocking functions:
Be sure to apply the parking brake when performing the following operations.

C) To select the unlocking linked with the ignition switch:
1. Close all doors and turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Shift the selector lever from “P” to the “N” position.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the “ON” position, press and hold the driver’s side power door lock switch in the unlock position for 5 seconds and then release. The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set. To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

D) To select the unlocking linked with the shift position:
1. Close all doors and turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Shift the selector lever to the “P” position.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the “ON” position, press and hold the driver’s side power door lock switch in the unlock position for 5 seconds and then release. The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set. To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

It sounds like you want to do "A" and "D" to turn off the features that you currently have active.

As mentioned above another option is to order a Mini VCI cable and program it through Techstream yourself.

I find it interesting you want to turn this feature off, I have become so accustomed to this feature in my 06 LX, that I have a PAC TR-7 getting ready to go into my son's 2000 LC to retrofit/emulate this functionality in his vehicle (that doesn't have these options).

Thanks! I agree and i have tried A and D several times with zero success. I'm perplexed.

I leave my doors unlocked because down in Arkansas we have our share of thieves who will happily break a window just to check a console.

In my experience (reprogrammed my 04) you have to be EXACT in your timing. Took me a few tries to get a similar procedure to work.

I don't think I understand how having the doors lock when moving the shifter out of "park" and having the doors unlock when returning the shifter to "park" has any bearing on thieves breaking windows and checking consoles. It would seem that this process would lock the car when in motion, and leave all doors unlocked when parked (unless you locked them with the fob).

If I’m not mistaken, it walks you through the steps of how to change that in the manual. I know I did something similar to my 04.

I apologize for not following up. I was able to turn that feature off and also turned off the auto tilt and telescoping wheel (both motors were bad when i bot the vehicle).

No need to burn up door lock motors and/or steering wherel tilt and telescope motors if you don’t have to and i very rarely lock it because i leave nothing of value in it.

Toyota dealership here in Little Rock

I have the crista obd reader I have to see if they have the customization for my model year and maybe it’ll have this. I want mine to unlock all when I put it into park etc

Usually standard OBDII readers do not have capability for stuff like this. Normally it takes specialized software (Toyota TIS Techstream) to be able to change functionality within the ECU/PCM/ECM with regards to things like this.

Sadly carista didn't have that option for this car. the obd reader i have does custom programming on my 2019 Golf R so I figured I would give it a try.

I got it working finally. that thing for sure is no joke about timing
i even busted out the stopwatch app on my phone and I can't get it to change.

I just want it to auto lock at a certain speed vs what it is now from P > D
