I like this idea, he won't have a chance to talk his way out of it if the bolt is missing, or sitting at the bottom of the housing.

Yep.. I could see that exploding the pinion.X 2, bolt holding the pinion shaft in is probably missing or not in tight enough and backed out on it's own.
I wasn't able to be there when taken apart. Was told all was is spec. and that the Pinion snapped clean as if frozen and dropped. It was in three nice clean peaces and no damage to any other parts. The original pinion shaft was 26 years old. perhaps old and brittle??

My pinion shaft is also 26 years old with near 260K miles. It was in great shape when I put the aussie in and is still doing its job 2 years later. You're getting played.
I talked to Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters about the issue and was told this is not unusual and has happened with a variety of other lockers including the Aussie's. Just unfortunate that I happened to be one of the few who had to deal with results out of the masses. The locker was installed per spec. and is in fine shape. However the carrier needed to be replaced due to slight elongation as to where the pinion shaft drops in. I've found no fault in the install and still have total faith in my tech.'s work. So what now, I decided to pull the Aussie and return the 60 to stock till i can afford selectable lockers (ARB). My Girl uses the 60 as a daily round town rig durning the week so I need lockers that can perform well both on and off road. Figured I'd just put the Aussie in the back end of my 40. Thanks to all who gave there advise and thoughts. up dates will fallow. Thanks again. Cosmo
Joel I've got more miles on mine that you and my miles are probably among the most brutal on the board living here in Central America. My Aussie locker has been in for at least 3 years with NO problems. The mechanic screwed up and does not want to admit it!!
Any pictures of the carnage?
So what you're saying is that the carrier is bad? That should be easy to find, and it's not so hard to replace, I just did that a few months back, mine had hogged out a bit where the side gears fit into it. Sorry for your troubles.
