I know a few club members are planning a trip to Whipsaw on August long, those that aren't on safari in the Chilko area. Anybody else interested in Whipsaw on August long?
Phil

Now that Chilko is out, Dad and I are heading to Cabin and Lightining lakes

whipsaw is out for us...want to stay more local this weekend so the 2 oldest and i will heading up to chehalis north via mystery. kid/family friendly as myself and i think some others are bringing their lil ones as well. we're leaving friday morning to secure a good spot...

Looks like there is a group going from BC4x4. I'd be up for it but it's the only vacation time we will have with my wife before she goes to Mexico and she wants to hang out at Dry Lake. If you change your mind and want to do a base camp at Dry Lake let me know. It's a rustic camp but the prices are good and the owners (Lynn & Marty) are great people.

Dry Lake? Never heard of it, linky for future reference please?

It is the third lake north of Princeton on Highway 5a - about 20 minutes from town: Dry Lake Camp, Princeton, BC - Fishing places around Dry Lake Camp. Pike Mountain lies to the West and has quite a few trails and small lakes at elevations of upwards of 4000'. Here's the Google Earth Info:

49°38'36.27"N

120°36'43.92"W

Most of the roads from the higway up the East side have been closed off now. The closest up from Dry Lake is the Stringer Lake road up from Allison Lake at the South end. Not sure of the condition. Last time I was on it, it was so badly washed out that only narrow wheel bases could make it through and then you were on the edge staring at very steep open slope to the base. At the time, all the few spots where one could have turned aound had been washed out. So once you are committed, you in for it. Also, it does have a fair amount of sharp rock. The next road is Ketchum which starts up the East side just North of Allison lake where the highway crosses Ketchum creek. The other road is a 2WD road just South of Summit Lakes. Access to Pike Mountain is just North of Summit Lakes. ots of roads and trails up there. You can come down off of the East side into the Otter Valley and drive out to Tulameen or up and over to Brookmere and onto the Coldwater. Only word of caution is that the Hells Angels have a Club House up at McDermid Lake on Pike Mountain. There is a public FSR that runs by the club house over to the West and then loops back North East going bya bunch of small lakes coming back near the entrance to the Pike Mountain FSR. People I know just avoid that club house end of the FSR. But don't be surprised if you see some hogs motoring down the Pike Mountain FSR.

If you do some exploring on Google Earth and you will see what I mean by the wealth of lakes and trails just in this small area.
