This is the third, and last, of ONSC's three official trips for 2016 to Hurricane Creek and the surrounding areas in NC and TN. The dates are August 5-7, but could be from the 4th to the 7th if group consensus allows.
Copying David's post: This is an Expo style trip in which self-reliance is the subject: No bathrooms, no gas stops, no showers, no guaranteed camping sites, as we will be miles from paved roads. You can expect miles of US Forestry Service roads, short mountain hikes (to the top of Max Patch, nearby waterfalls and maybe Buzzard's Roost or Midnight Hole this year), scenic views, refreshing mountain streams, cool nights spent around a campfire and maybe a bear or two. Expectations are that any Toyota with 4WD will do fine on the terrain we'll be covering. (Read here: You don't need lockers, a lift, mud tires, etc.)
As far as equipment, gear, etc., those attending will coordinate so we don't have more than 2 of most things (campstoves, etc) and yet ensure we have firewood, tarps, rope, saws, shovels, potable water, etc. At a minimum, each attendee would need a lightweight sleeping bag, tent, cooler and $ to put towards group meals.
Details will be ironed out in the near future but plans will include the ever-popular group meals. The trip will be limited to 7 paid ONSC member trucks. And, if you've been on a previous HC trip this year you'll be put on the waiting list to allow room for those who have not made a trip. I'm slimming down the group to try a few different things out this year, and that's the rationale for 7 trucks this trip (back to the original ideal number!).
1. Keefers: GarnerFJ40
2. Wellers: mtweller
3. Rymers: erymer
4. Hickoks: fj40z
5. Ashcrofts: southerncruiser62
6. Davidsons: kristofferson
7. Free: jfz80
Waiting List:
1. Shandors: 77 Kroozer
2. JToobe
3. jamesurq
We'll decide on the meeting time (Everyone knows the spot!) along with group meal plans, equipment to bring etc. This will be done through texts, so if I don't have your number and you're in a spot PM me so we can get this rolling.
I apologize this is going out so late, but due to school, vacation, kid's activities, etc. has pushed it back. And, just to make sure I could still lead it!
