Since my upper shackle bolt goes through the frame, I had to perform a mod on my 6-2-1 header.
If you look at the pic below, the area outlined in red was modified (w/ball-peen hammer) to accommodate the head of the shackle bolt.

This combination has a few draw-backs:
Bushing changes are a pain.
Greasable bolts are not an option, unless your zerk is on the threaded end (NOT bolt-head).
Possible stress to header caused by operator of ball-peen hammer

I am now looking for a replacement header, and am wondering what you SR guys are running?

thanks,
manny

MAF

I went with MAF. Should know in a couple of days if it is going to work. From all of the pictures I saw, it should be fine. I will post up once I get mine. They are on sale right now too.:grinpimp:

Jeremy,
Please let me know the results of your install :D

Here are some additional pics...thanks

Manny-

Hopefully these help and do not confuse you....

MAF two-piece ceramic headers with MAF 4+ shackle reversal that I run on my junk:

System was done by an ‘exhaust guy’ who is also a ‘wheeler.

Steve,
Everything helps, I definitely don't want to be sending anything back because it doesn't fit.

Based on your pics, If I go directly above your upper-bolt, It looks like I may have enough clearance without having to breakout the hammer :D

Do those collector clamps come w/SOR's headers...they look alot like MAF's.

I have already called/sent pics to Downey/MAF...SOR is next.

Thanks for the pics.

Manny,
It looks from the pictures like Poser's shackle hanger is below the frame, giving more clearance. If I'm not mistaken yours is drilled through the frame. The only way I can figure to fit it cleanly is to tap the shackle itself, or drop the hanger below the frame. I cut a nylock in half and thraded that in and it "works", but I would be more comfortable threading the shackle and tacking the other side.

Those are MAF headers, NOT SOR....

fixed my post.

sorry.

I do not think that you will have fitment issues with the MAF headers.

David,
Mine does go through the frame, but from Poser's pics there seems to be enough room to accommodate a shackle w/bolt head.
The lower pipe was routed by his exhaust guy...so I'm thinkin some creative routing could be the answer I'm looking for :D

I do like your idea, maybe a jam-nut and tacking both sides?
Thanks

I sent pics/talked to ALL 2F header companies mentioned above, and only MAF said they would fit.
Header has been ordered...

Thanks again for the pics Steve,
manny

Finally got around to installing the new MAF bling :D

I reckon the old header was Done:

can i get an update on these, i want some, how do they sound, any performance? what are the things you like about them? thanks.

even more ?'s - did you have to put half washers in or something like that to make sure the intake and headers mated properly against the head? OEM gasket? two? copper stuff? leaks?

I have zero reports of a Downey 3 into 2 into 1 Header NOT working with a shackle reversal. I've sold both for years (Downey style Header with shackle reversal kits) and never had clearance comments made. I personally have only had shackle reversals on my vehicles that had V8's. If anyone has had a clearance issue, I'd sure like to hear about it. Poser, maybe you've used this combination???

update
------

headers are installed on a 2F with a 1F intake manifold using a stock toyota gasket.

Since I had to modify the intake to fit the 2F, I chose to run copper washers and studs (no bolts).

things I like:
high quality finish
2 piece design makes for an easier install
fit
flange design
upper shackle bolt clearance
quieter then my previous header :p

things I'm not crazy about:
bends on 1st cylinder are kinda close to 2nd battery...no issues, just wish I had some additional clearance.
after 2 years, a bit of surface rust has already starting to form :( price I pay for living near beach.
had to make a block-off plate for the EGR-tube...would have preferred if MAF offered a model w/o EGR.
custom Y-pipe made by local exhaust guy was an additional $150

for the record,
when I called Downey back in 2006...the person who answered the phone couldn't confirm their headers would play nice with a SR 40 (with upper bushing bolt going THROUGH the frame).

hth,
manny
