206,000 miles on the odometer
Completely rebuilt engine with 16,000 miles on it

I purchased this 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 in 2016 in Georgia, and it has remained in Georgia ever since. My initial goal was to have a fun project car, so I dove into upgrading and improving its performance right away.

One of the first things I did was desmog the 60, removing unnecessary smog equipment and rerouting all vacuum lines with new ones. I also sent the distributor to the well-known “Jim C” for his recurve service and replaced the distributor cap and wires. Since the distributor was being worked on, I decided to have Jim rebuild the carburetor as well.

All coolant hoses and the radiator were replaced, and I took the opportunity to swap out all the belts. While I was at it, I replaced the clutch master cylinder too.

When COVID hit and I wasn’t driving much, I sold my other car and made the 60 my daily driver, a role it still holds today. To give it a bit more height and presence, I installed a 2.5-inch Iron Man lift kit along with 2-inch shackles for an extra boost. I also added a set of OEM chrome wheels in great condition, paired with BFG KO2 33x10.5 tires, which have seen minimal wear. I restored and installed OEM mud flaps found on MUD to complete the look.

Unfortunately, on the way back from a camping trip with my son, the engine threw a rod. This led to me sourcing another 2F engine from a great friend and a complete engine rebuild, done with the help of that same great friend. The newly rebuilt 2F engine now includes fresh pistons, rings, valves, valve stem seals, rear main seal, and everything else required for a thorough rebuild. I also resurfaced the manifold and installed it with an OEM gasket.

While the engine was out, we took the opportunity to rebuild the transmission as well. I also tackled the front knuckle rebuild, a rite of passage for any Land Cruiser owner, and upgraded the braking system with 4Runner calipers, a new brake master cylinder, and a new brake booster. I replaced the tie rod ends and rebuilt the rear drum brakes too.

Several other smaller projects were completed along the way: replacing the side mirrors with OEM originals, wiper blade motor, AC/heater blower motor, alternator, caulking and sealing the drip rails, installing a new muffler, new battery, and replacing the evaporator coil.

I’ve deliberately kept the exterior and interior in original condition. It’s still painted in the factory beige metallic, with the original brown and tan seats and brown carpet.

This 60 has 206,000 miles on the odometer, with approximately 16,000 miles on the rebuilt engine. It runs beautifully. While I’ve loved making this Land Cruiser my daily driver, I’m embarking on another big project and need to find her a new home, whether as a weekend camping rig or as a continued daily driver.

A summary of completed work is listed below. Feel free to message me with any questions!

I have had some people reach out asking for videos of the truck running.

Here’s a video of a cold start and another one of the engine bay while it’s running

Anymore undercarriage shots? I'm local and may be interested. Can't really assess rust from the few shots you included.
Let me know if this helps. I took video thinking it may be more helpful but let me know if there are any specific areas that you want to see and I’ll be glad to take pictures of those.

It’s only surface rust as you will see and that is limited.

I’m happy to show it if you want to take a look in person.

Those wheels and roof rails are 100% perfection
