Last night on the interstate light came on would not go off. I checked fluid and looked ok, so drove it about another 150 miles home This morning light comes on at startup and does not go off. Fluid level is ok. Serviced the tranny about 12K miles ago. 182,000 on the truck.
Any ideas?

Does your brake warning light function right? How is the voltage? I believe these lights will stay on if your alternator is starting to crap out (the warning circuits "read" the low voltage as a fault at the sensor).

If the light is staying on from start up, that would seem to me to be a false reading, as the transmission can't be 300*F until it has run for a bit. You could also check the connector for the warning circuit (on the pass side IIRC, i believe disconnecting this will set off the light).

For a $15 or $20 you can put in a thermometer (like this) and know for sure what is going on.

thanks for the reply. The alternator is ok although I have had that issue before. Light finally went off today. Then I drove it less than a mile and it came back on, I think I have a bad sensor.

I think I have the same issue, but mines the alt, I hope. Might be belts too, hope to get on in in the next week or so. Glad yours was something simple.
