This thread may prove to be too much work for Onur. If so, and upon his request, mod please delete.

Beno: I sometimes have to use my local Toyota parts counter for need-it-now items. Today it was an engine air filter and an oil filter for the 98 4Runner.

300K Miles last week!

Why, when the parts guy goes into the system to find the part(s) does he type (what seems) a doctoral thesis into the computer? I mean, this dude typed steady for 2-3 minutes.

Hahaha, I had a similar experience a week or so ago when i went to get a new key cut for the 83.

Me: I'd like to have a key made, here is the cylinder code
Guy 1: uh, do you have the VIN?

Me: yes, but this is the key code and besides the truck is too old for the VIN to pull it up.
Guy 1: uh, I still need the VIN

Guy 1 walks away while I'm looking for my insurance card.

Guy 2 gets off the phone and attempts to assist.

Guy 2: you need a key made?
Me: yes please

Guy 2: you have proof of ownership?
Me: like the title? No, not on me

Guy 2: insurance card would work, just need name address and VIN all together
Me: I have that

Guy 2: uh well the manager that approves key requests is on a conference call, but if you want to come back later...
Me (interupting): no, thats alright, I will go elsewhere.

Erin texted Sam and we had the key in a couple days.

I get that they are not usually enthusiasts, but seems anymore no one will do anything without a VIN (not just the Toyota dealers), not even if you have all the pertinent information or a part number. Hell the VW dealer won't sell me an oil filter without a VIN...

So true. Few months back C became distracted and lost the fuel fill cap on her old X5. No problem, I'll be driving by the dealer tomorrow and can pick one up. At the counter there were 2 guys - you have the VIN?- ah, no it's just a gas cap here's the year, model and engine displacement - guy 1, well I can't sell you one without the VIN might be wrong part - Guy 2 grabs one and places it on the counter "it's probably this one" - me, well the one we lost had a green stem and looked different on the top if that helps you narrow it down - guy 1, no this is why we'll need that VIN

So I leave , stop at Ken Holton's shop where the office girl - the young lady who schedules appointments - goes - oh yeah, that year takes the one with the green stem, hang on while I go check, we usually keep one or two around...

Sorry guys you have a lot of faith in people taking pride in what they do.

In an car dealership you has a walk up customer to a parts counter account for .000000095% of there business and 99% don’t understand you are a real customer they think of only service as customers in the dealership.

Sorry to I am in dealerships most everyday. There are few and far between that are actually car people and get it. It is frustrating to me also.

Oh, I get that, and I know when I go in what I am typically going to get. That guy is just there to get his check. Never really thought about it, but now that you mention it I can see that walk up business accounts for a super small percentage of their sales. But above all, you nailed it, they just don't care. No pride in doing a good job, just do enough to keep themselves employeed and off the radar.

Crosses over to pretty much every sector of business these days, deal with it myself way more than I like to admit.

Beno is riding bitch on a Yeti cooler. Day 3 onto a 10 day trip.

You think he was grumpy before.......

He’s not answering any of these questions. We should enjoy this thread while we can.

Weekend at Bernie’s

Why am I thinking this is Onur's intoxicated come hither look?

But we should all support him that he has quit smoking cigarettes, and hopefully not too late.

River trip looks great.

He's even forgotten the proper salute.

Beno quit smoking cigarettes? Good for Beno. Ya know what he needs now is to run a can of Seafoam through the pulmonary system to clean out the gunk. He'll blow white smoke for a while and that may irritate the neighbors but afterwards he'll run smooth as a top.

Let's hope. I'd run the Seafoam through Lungs, Vasculature and bladder. Especially the vasculature. The cigs over long periods **** up everything. In my view smoking/tobacco should be illegal. Tobacco has killed more humans early than anything else other than malaria, and maybe not even that. Smoking cigarettes cuts 10-12 years off average life spans, and most of that is not lung cancer. It's other insidious and horrible problems. So you die 10 years early and spend your last 30 years in rapidly declining health. I'd rather live 10 years longer and have all the decline come at the end. But that's just me. People who smoke are fools. They just don't realize it until it's too late.
