There was one from Rock Hill that looked EXACTLY like it about a year ago...belonged to a car dealer.

He was asking something insane like 8K for it though

Being in Asheville

something doesn't look right. There is no NC inspection sticker on the windshield and the PICs don't look like Asheville. No response from seller? hummmmm. . . . . .

David - There may be a different local, overriding reg in Asheville but general NC inspection regs say only 1996 models and later require state inspections...

Unless something changes, in two years no N.A. 80s will need inspections.

I wish it were so! Unless the vehicle is 35 years old, it is NOT exempt from vehicle inspections in NC. You are confusing the emissions testing for '96 year model plus vehicles with the safety inspection. Here is what the DMV says:

"A North Carolina vehicle safety inspection is required within 10 days of receiving a North Carolina license plate or by the last day of the month printed on the inspection sticker. Vehicles 35 years old, or older, are exempt from the North Carolina vehicle safety inspection."

The DMV says as to emissions inspections (in 48 counties):

"North Carolina has a new tool for fighting ozone-forming emissions from gasoline-operated cars and light duty trucks. Since 2002, licensed inspection stations have been required to use a more effective method for testing the air-pollution controls on cars and trucks. It requires them to conduct inspections using the vehicle's on-board diagnostic (OBD) systems, or computerized equipment installed on all new vehicles since 1996. Though they are still required to obtain a safety inspection, diesel-operated vehicles are exempt from the annual emission inspection. "

While there are a bunch of white 80's in Asheville, that photo concerns me because there is no inspection sticker in the DS of the window.

Fair enough; while I am always up for a good natured debate, your chosen profession probably makes me ill equipped for any further exchange of substance. :D

I do know that my 77 and 78 do not (and never have while in my possession) require an NC inspection. Read that to say, I've never had a NC Inspection sticker in either 40 and have had no (known) issues with the NC DMV...

Consider youself lucky! (I KNOW you are lucky . . . OBX last week, NY Salmon next week . . . you are da'man!)

My '82 and '89 both have NC inspections, but our '68 Mustang is exempt. You may wish to get the inspections, inasmuch as the fines are now in the hundreds. If you miss an inspection on a post '96 vehicle, you won't need to wait to get pulled, you will get a ticket in the mail. (Several hundred dollars!!) Those emissions/inspection stickers are electronically recorded, while the yellow safety inspections don't appear to be.

You may have missed getting pulled on the 40s inasmuch as most people think 40s are older than they actually are, including cops.

While I am not an advocate of spending money, you may want to get any post-72 40s inspected inasmuch as it is probable cause to pull you over, and who knows what will be found at that point . . . "Sir, are those Cuban?" :grinpimp:

Don't we know some high powered dude to work the system for us if we need it? :)

Ha, ha. Well, I stand corrected. Nice work counselor. ;)

I've never really looked it up, just always trusted what my service guy at Toyota told me.

I guess ignorance is indeed sometimes bliss: :)

I am familiar with the ticket / fine. I've gotten a few warnings in the mail but have always avoided the fine.

The whole system is pretty messed up IMO. A few weeks ago I realized my 97 80 had an expired inspection for almost a year! Never saw anything in the mail for that and got it done right away when I finally noticed. My work car was late by less than 30 days and I got 2 warnings immediately...

And they are Dominican, thank you!! :D

Speaking of cigars, do you still have the neighbor / friend who runs the cigar store up your way?

If so, when you see him, ask him if he can get Santa Rosa Torpedos.

http://brighampipes.com/Santa Rosa Cigars.htm

I can't find them anymore. If he can get them, I'll order 3 or 4 boxes from him pronto.

MY price? A knuckle rebuild! (Or at least somone looking over my shoulder drinking my beer) By-the-by, I ordered the kit from Marlin and also got the beefy inner axle seals and wheel bearings! Hamom December 15 . . . . beer and burgers, etc.

Trust me, in this state, vehicle safety inspections are a good thing!

Just called him and can get them for you for $104 a box (this is after the 20% discount). How many boxes?

David - Thanks, that's awesome! I've been looking for a while now with no success at all.

I'll take 3 boxes for now. What is the easiest way to proceed?

Call the shop before 5:30 today. 828-253-8822. Tell Jeff you're one of David' Davis's buddies. When Jeff stops laughing, all well be well. (Also, don't tell him about your "misdemenaing" inspection sticker violation or the origins of your cigar collection- - he's a retired G-Man!) Jeff is also the cigar expert at the shop, so feel free to squeeze as much info out of him as possible.:D

I'll have to have one of those Santa Rosa's the next time I see you. Consider it a finder's fee.

Awesome, thanks David. Just spoke to Jeff. Nice guy, the process is in motion.

As far as the finder's fee...done. Actually I've give you a few because once you smoke one, you'll surely want a few more.

Great, glad I could help. Can't wait to try a new Cigar.

Now with that business out of the way (bringing friends together is what cruisers are all about, right?), if anyone is looking at a Cruiser in Asheville (and they are everywhere here), I would be more than happy to swing by, take some parts (I mean pictures), and post them up. I found both my 40 and my 62 in Asheville, where they have lived their entire lives.

While not Arizona, AsheVegas is pretty easy on cars with only a few "salt days" a year.

(Maybe I just found my retirement job - - Land Cruiser Scout)

Final hijack.

Seems after further research Jeff is mired in the same dead end I've been for years.

Turns out he can't get them either. :crybaby:

Thanks for the effort and good luck in your moonlighting gig...

Geez!

:frown: Bummer
