i dont like drilling holes in my dash, especially for something i rarely use so i just replace my ash tray with my trailer brake module when i want to tow. i have a molex tool so i was able to add a plug to it. i use a cedar wood shim under it to hold it snug. since i have a 2000 i had to run my own wires so i brought the brake control wire through the grommit under the driver side floor and then routed it along with a fused 12v from the battery through the frame using a fiberglass fish rod where i then tied in to the indicator light harness in the rear.

Can you give me some details as to identifing the brake wire that you spliced into for the controler? Is it located directly above the brake pedal? Also what size fuse did you put inline with the 12v charging line?

i tapped into the brake wire in the driver kick panel. i will look tonight for the color when i get home. i have a 15amp fuse for the main 12v feed to the plug. i have a 10amp fuse to the 12v input on the brake module.

yes i ran a seperate power wire to the brake module. i tapped in to the thick white/red stripe wire above and to the right of the fuse box drivers kick for the power. the brake wire is green/white drivers kick in white plug closest to the sheet metal. yes i soldered/taped and tied the connections. i ran 12v from the battery for the charge wire.

The thick white/red stripe wire above and to the right of the fuse box drivers kick box is the one that you use to power the brake controller correct? What does it power originally?

yes i used it to power the module. what it powers? not exactly sure. only that it is a thick power feed wire to the fuse block. 2 average trailer brakes only draw about 6amps combined. it has worked well for me but if you are not comfortable using it you can always just split off from your battery feed. i only used it originally because I only needed the brake wire for my trailer and not a charge wire. i ran the charge wire at a later time.

liveoak, have you had any of the feedback issues to the instrument cluster with your setup? Also did you keep the stock toyota taillight converter?

Both installs look great!
