(Oct. 3, 2022) — Hurricane Ian had minimal impacts on the National Forests in North Carolina. Crews on the Ranger Districts are expected to complete storm assessments today and are clearing downed trees and debris from the roads, trails and campgrounds. Nearly all roads and recreation areas that closed in advance of the storm have already reopened.
Most damage occurred on the Uwharrie National Forest. Due to the high number of downed trees, the Badin Lake OHV trails will remain closed until crews can complete assessments and clear trails.
There is still a risk of falling trees and limbs in reopened areas. Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid areas with leaning trees and broken, hanging limbs. When camping, check the site for hazards before setting up camp.
