Based on the pics attached, are the ome front shocks fried?

I found this poor 93 in the graveyard nearby. The owner wants $150 for the ome f&r shocks, coils (med) and steering damper. I know its a steal but do you think the shocks will work after an engine fire?

I'm a black 97 owner with light mods. Great forum!

They are probably fried.
That price is only 50% of new.
Not worth it

I'd just replace the shocks. They're not that expensive.

Great find!

Cross drilled rotors on that rig.

I would vote yes they are fried... There has to be internal plastic rubber bits in the shock that may or may not have survived.... I would think the steering stabilizer would be questionable as well.

Negotiate a lower price for springs only and buy new shocks, steering stabilizer.

Where are you? find out how much they want for the front axle.

Check what he wants for the control arms is they have castor bushings, might be cheaper and easier for ya!....if your pulling the springs, I'm pretty sure you will have to pull one end of the shocks, check them and see if there shot, could just be lots of soot and not too high temps.

too bad th4e cross drilled rotors didn't dissipate enough heat fer to prevent the fire!

x2 on wondering about the shocks

This is at a place where you pull the part yourself?

Offer him $10 each for the springs and $20 each for the arms. If he pulls them for you and you just come in to pick them up, double that.

Shocks are toast. There is a GOOD shot that those front springs are about 1" or so shorter than they were when they left OME as they were subjected to HIGH heats while loaded.

an engine fire? on an FJ80? Isn't that more of a range rover thing? LOL

Where is this truck? It was one of our customers trucks. I was going to buy it from him (after he got it from the insurance) but then he got in a hurry and gave it to them for dirt cheap.

We just did a ton of maintenace on that rig and installed the suspension. Truck was parked in the garage and ashes thown in the trash can ignited and burned the car.

New strategy for you then... Tell Slee where it is in exchange for a finders fee taken in trade for a set of springs and bushings...

lx_treme, here is a pic among my initial shots. sorry for the angle. i'll try to take a good one for you when i visit them soon.

christo, the unit is in one of the junk yards in el paso, tx. the license plates are registered last from colorado. why is it that the there is a collision mark on the front? looked like an electrical source of fire after collission.

Just a guess... Fire and rescue doesn't mess with hood latches.

hey grench, i'll try $100 for all front and rear. ain't sure about the front shocks and coils. but the rear are pretty tidy. the steering dampers have no heat marks. might throw in 20 bucks for the control arms. deal is he takes them out for me. wadyatink?

That is entirely up to you.

I think you should talk to Slee about what he did to this truck. Someone noticed the drilled rotors. There may be other 'gems' on it that you might be able to get cheap if the guy doesn't know what he's got.

If you can get the mud flaps cheaply, I'd take them.

If you look at the first picture it didn't get hot enough to melt or ignite the rubber fender skirt.
