One of my CV boots needs to be replaced soon and I would like to do the boot kit myself. I found these on Craigslist but wondering if the rust cleanup is worth my time? What do you all think?

If the splines are sharp and just have light surface rust, then yes. If they're pitted and nasty, no. Also check radial play on the CV joints and any evidence of water in the CV boots. As long as grease leaked out of the small tear and water didn't get in, you're probably good.

Rebooting is pretty easy, I'd just reboot the axles you already have and reinstall them. Looks like those are sitting outside, so I'd personally want to avoid messing with the rust. It could affect wheel bearing preload if the rust prohibits the axle from freely sliding into the hub, even if your torque it to the correct 204 ft/lbs.
