Are the 1980 rear sill in a HJ45 the same as FJ40?

The headline says it all, my HJ45 rear sill is gone, and there's a guy on the forum, awl_TEQ, who does a really nice rear sill for the FJ40's, but will it fit?

Looking forward to your replys, and a Happy New Year!:)

I think there are minor differences in the 40 rear sills and those for the 45 Troopy. The Troopy doesn't have the spare tire carrier captive nuts as one example. I do think he would be able to make one for you. They are the same physical size.

Thanks for the reply. I don't mind the captive nuts as I plan on mounting a tire carrier at some point anyways. Although this is a side track, it's because I am contemplating relocating the tank to the rear and add a real rear seat and doors at some point...

But back on track; I suspected they were almost alike, but good to get expert confirmation!:)

Rufus, if you get a chance could you please snap a shot of the sill from the perspective of the rear axle on your unit? I could probably tell at a glance if they are compatible. I'll check the FSM for the frame/ body mount spacing. I'm headed over to your thread to see if there isn't a pic there already...

And there is a few good ones there - from what I see here the 45/47 sill is the same as the 40's - in this case Rufus' sill looks just like the 79-84 40 sills I have made.

Two pics borrowed from Rufus' thread

I would like to move the camera closer to the sill but I do see the resemblance in this first shot. I can see two of the six drains and the slope of the mount area

And here I can just make out the lower lip of the outer skin

Mine did have the captive nuts. It came with a factory gas can holder instead of a tire carrier, but the mount and latch holes were all the same.

No worries - thanks anyway:cheers:
