I got asked a question at work today that I didn't have a 'for sure' answer for. He asked if 35" MTRs would fit an FJ if you had a sufficient lift. I assume he was referring to fender clearance and steering rubs but any thoughts would be welcomed.

So... is there an amount of lift that would fit them without body mods (while still being drivable).

Thx
Shawn

anything is possible... but I'm not sure if you can fit 35s with the lift kits currently avaliable. If you can't, I'm sure you will be able to in the very near future.

You could always use no lift and just follow this handy template I designed with the sawzall:

No. 35's will not fit period.
The limiting factor is the front body mounts. If you do some solid fabrication work, you can fit 35's but it is not plug-n-play.

Ok, thanks... kind of a bummer 'cause the discussion got me thinking of the fun it would be .

33"s should be no problem right? I was under the impression that a 3" lift would be all that was needed to run them. Sound right or no?

Thanks

Not to mention you won't be able to pop open the rear window glass....there is barely an inch of clearance with stock tires.

Small price to pay if you can actually get 35s on there, of course then you have to wonder if the tailgate can handle the extra weight leveraged on it. :)

Trailer for spare?

i say bull****, everyone said you needed like 6 in. of lift to run 35's on an 80, i bet that with the lifts that are out (same as 4 runner) and some spacers (cant you use a spacer on the front?) that you could fit 35's on like 4-5in of lift. you would need bumbstops but i bet it could be done

I am not too familiar w/ the FJC, but I know the setup is "similar" to 4Runners. I am thinking that there is a way to modify tried-and-true mods on those trucks to get 35's on a FJC - taller coils in the back w/ a modified panhard setup and extended brake lines and bumpstops; taller coils in the front, maybe a spacer, definitely a diff-drop kit, modify the upper A-Arm, some slight body trimming, and you're there. Hell, someone has probably already done it.
