We leave in a few weeks for Tuktoyaktuk and the Arctic Ocean. 8,000 miles and 24 days, including hundreds of miles on frozen rivers, lakes and eventually the frozen Ocean.

There will be several side trips along the way in MT, WY, WA, etc. It would be great to meet up with some of you along the route.

More updates soon.

Todd,

Lets plan on meeting up, either on the road or in Edmonton. We are putting together a dinner in the Calgary area too.

Have a great trip!

Hey man, lots of good eatin' in Cowtown. Good Alberta beef, you know, angry cows. The River Shiver will be over by then but we are always looking for a reason to get out of the house.

Gas in Calgary is about 81 cents a litre and goes up in price geometrically with your latitude.

if you wanna stop in bellingham Wa right before the boarder crossing or need anything lt m know it be nice to meet up even if your just getting gas.

Sweet, I've been secretly (from the wife) planning / dreaming of this same trip for about 2 years now. Mostly route and distance at this point though on the way back I'd try to hug the coast as much as possible. My hurdle has been $$$ and a new baby. Maybe in a year or two.

It'll be interesting as I came up with about a 28 day schedule. You are covering some big days late in the trip after not only driving for 2 week straight but ice climbing, dog sledding, etc. You're also betting on the clearest weather in history I see ;)

We can add up to another full week to the schedule if required.

But, might as well make the driving as intense as the climate :)

March is typically good for weather too.

Lots of progress on the truck and gear in the last few weeks.

The 34's fit now (thanks to a big hammer), we have the RAM laptop mount and are working on interior lighting, battery heaters, pan heaters and some prototype fluids from Mobil 1.

Personal equipment keeps piling up with new MHW jackets, NF boots and Columbia shells and insulated pants. And about ten different hats to keep my bald mugg warm. :grinpimp:

We will have the truck and trailer at the International Sportsmans Expo in Phoenix this March 9-11. If anyone wants to stop by and say hi

Oh, and one of the more important mods

Hey! I am thinking of driving to
Chile from California. Anyone has info or advise?
Thanks,

I am making that trip at the end of next year (to Tierra del Fuego). My advice would be to leave now ;)

Depending on your intentions for traveling remote, a stock TLC will do the entire trip (maybe some adjustments to the suspension to accommodate the load). If you are traveling solo, keep the vehicle low profile and save you money for all the awesome food you are going to eat along the way

More gear now:

The cold weather clothing, gauges, sleeping bags and loading solutions have nearly filled my garage. The Columbia stuff we purchased has been very high quality and warm with the liners.

We also have four sets of chains now for testing. One is an easy to install design Konig T2 No Problem, which takes about two minutes per tire. The other is a Polar model with heavy t-bars and more complicated installation. Thule is the US importer of these chains.
