ARB Sahara Bar Question

not on the 4runner/Prado Sahara Bar. It's easier to do it off the rig instead of on it. If you do it on it, at least spool off the wire to lighten it up some.

I imagine that the 100 Sahara is the same.

they don't make a sahara for the 80 - as you know - so that's not necessarily a valid comparison. the sahara bars are basically the same with slightly different dimensions and different brackets to fit the different vehicles. i put mine in the first time w/ the bumper already on the runner and i had to spool the cable off to get it lighter so i could hold it up and get the bolts started at the same time - it was a bitch.

the second time i did it, i put the winch in the bumper, then lifted the bumper onto the brackets that i had already put on the frame rails. that was WAY easier than wrestling the winch up into that hole.

Buddy of mine just bought a sahara bar for his '01 100 from MAF...said they told him he has to install the winch before the bar goes on the vehicle.

definately the winch goes on before the bar is mounted. As does the front number plate/license plate...i have been replacing cheap bolts with high tensile bolts (PM me on that as i am not going public about details on my thoughts on my install, despite some comments i made on a post which i subsequently removed)

i was checking the bolts for my front number plate/license plate and removed the left hand bolt and heard the "clink" as the corresponding nut fell off.....well...i stopped removing the right hand bolt...i have NFI how to get this nut on....so i will put the bolt through facing the driving position, screw the nut on and then maybe grind down the bolt. There is no way you can do this with the bar mounted with the bolt head facing the rear.

There's issues with the law around protruding bolts here too...I find it ludicrous to think that a bolt protruding 15mm could be considered "harmful to pedestrians" when i have this bull bar (as they are called here in Oz) which is designed to take the impact of a bull or steer if you prefer...but as is likely here in Oz a dumb mf kangaroo....my opinion on pedestrians is that...well....what are you doing walking/running out in front of a car on a road???

we have this group of people here in Oz trying to ban 4wd/4x4 vehicles with bull bars from driving in the CBD....i can go on and on and on about my opinions on that, but no doubt you either agree with me, or have heard it all before.
