can someone verify that a '69 fj40, no known axle modifications uses the RD-124 for rear, and the RD-142 for the front?

Those are your air lockers.

Both will require the new, 50mm id carrier bearings, ARB part number, 160116 (total of four pieces), or you will need to purchase the Timken #, 32010X

Is there a difference between a '69 and a '78 FJ40. I have the same c-clip ARB in both axles so if the rear gets damaged I can take the front out and put it in the rear.

Not as far as the ARB is concerned.

Should not be an issue, as long as you have your cross shaft retaining pin removal tool for the RD08/RD124 c-clip, semi-float ARB. They will swap front to rear, no issues.
