So Lemon has been here(BHCC 2007) for about 24 hours and has accomplished this:

Kong, or also known as co-co, seems to have dished out a bit of s*** to the Yellow truck today....

Here are some for Ingrid!

You think removing the cross shaft and thrust block pieces are fun when they are new…try it after the case has separated from the housing bolts backing out/snapping off and putting a bind on things…

So after working the vise-grip and pry bar combination for a while to get the cross shaft out, I was able to get the c-clips out. This was only after driving the cross shaft through the retaining pin with a ½ drive extension and large hammer, as the ARB housing had rotated to the point that the removal tool was not able to even get close to the retaining pin.

It appears that the little locking tabs for the ARB carrier housing bolts had fell off and allowed the bolts to back out of the ARB housing, causing the carrier to separate and bind in the differential housing.

Here are three more pictures of the failed pieces:

Sweet! So we all have something to look forward to.:D What size tires were you running?

No internet in camp. Lemon and I are in his 80 in the parking lot someplace in Deadwood.....

He has 38.5” SX Swampers.

I know too many people running larger tires and significantly larger engine combinatioins for something in this truck to be an issue.

The axle shafts and housing appear to be strait and true.....

I am pretty certain that one of the ARB housing retaining bolts got loose from the housing and went through the works.....

Other than this, things have been AWSOME here since MILLHOUSE and I showed up Thursday afternoon....

:eek::eek: Ouch!!! :frown:

Were you doing anything extreme when it popped?

I had just finished Kong.

I heard a few snap-crackle-pop noises from the rear end on the exit trail. I did a quick inspection but didn't see anything obvious, so I chalked it up to rocks in the rotors or springs. I think this was when all the hardware broke off and went through the gears.

When I got on the dirt road I could tell the rear end wasn't unlocked and the truck was surging with light consistent throttle and even when coasting. We thought maybe I broke an axle shaft and the brakes were rubbing while keeping everything together.

Back at camp we jacked up the rear end and could only turn the wheels 180 degrees before it would drag hard, almost needing two people to turn the wheels – and it was still locked. The diff cover was about 250 degrees.

So, out came the jack stands……the rest is history
……and a big dent in an empty credit card!

Good Luck!

Wheelin’ isn’t free, no there's a hefty fawkin' fee.....

Well.......tell the happy ending. The one involving two little Brown trucks.

Wow, that must have been some pop! I haven't seen an ARB grenade like that before!

Was not that loud really...

Old style locker…has a 92 prefacing the serial number if I recall correctly. I was a four bolt piston housing cap locker. They have since updated the locker (back in 1995, again, IIRC) to an eight-bolt design.

Only takes one of the four bolts to back out and cause the whole piston cap to become loose, causing the other fasteners to stretch and become loose also, and create all sorts of drama in the axle housing.

There is only so much ‘free space’ inside a differential, and when you get something floating around in there that is out of place, it will raise all sorts of hell when it gets in someplace that there is not room for it.
