What line did you guys tap(blue/white wire) for dash illumination to light up the ARB switches.

If you put your switches on the left of the steering wheel there is a convenient spot at the rheostat on a 96, which is where I tapped in for my extra rear heat switch.

You can also tap off the junction connectors behind the cluster

Check a 94 EWD

ARB switches? Why not use an OEM factory locker switch for that "stealth" look?

Did you wire up the factory dash lights also? How difficult is it to use the factory switch(and lights, if so equipped)?

Yup, to the factory dash lights. It's easy to hook up the selector switch, if memory serves, only three wires to contend with I think.

Was going to do the OEM switch but went with the ARB switches for convenice. I'm putting the switches in place of the coin holders. Figure the best place to tap a line is around the stereo area. Any ideas which line to tap?

I originally mounted my ARB switches in the center console and while it's convenient, there is a risk if someone unfamilar with the setup should drive the vehicle. It's easy for them to accidently activate the switches.

If that is a concern, installing a factory diff lock switch is a good alternative as it requires a deliberate effort to turn it on and if you activate the lights as well, you have an additional alert to tell you that they have been activated.

Bob, where did you connect the dash illumination wire when you mounted your switches? I'm the only one driving this rig, so the risk is minimal. In the future I might go with the oem switch.

It's been a couple of years since I last messed with it, but I think that I tied it in to the park and tail light circuit. That will not allow you to vary the brightness of the illumination tho....

Can I tap a line off of the stereo. If so do you guys know which line?

Bump, somone has to of tap a line for this.

Biff,

If you've got the center console out, I recall on my 93 that there was an unused connector jusy laying there that had power. I used it to power a Hella map light mounted to the right side. I suspect the lack of direct feedback here is due to most of us simply fishing around wherever we happen to be mounting something and using what we find without thinking much of it. I use a straight pin and multimeter to find my switched 12v wires and constant 12v wires. You haven't stated it, but I suspect it's confusing a few here - are you simply looking for switched 12v (easy) or what it sounds like which is a way to hook up your ARB switches on the illumination dimming circuit so the switch dims with the rest of the dash??

I think I know which connect you mean. When I pulled the center console out there was a small unused female connector, I'll try to get a pic of it to show you. I guess I can tap onto that.

I'm basically looking for a line that will light up the switches when the rig is running.

Biff,

Check 'em for switched power (nothing with key off, 12v with key on). Sure the switches will be lit 100% of time the engine's running, but better than poking around for another half day, ya know? Order a spare bulb and toss it in the glovebox.

That worked, thanks Doug.

Cool. So you guys all fording water up to your headlights down there? I cannot believe you are getting so much rain. We're having the driest February in recorded history up here.

Tell me about it, over 10 inches of rain this year alone. We are seriously being pounded with way to much rain.

I didn't know you could do that, hmmm. that would be pretty stealthy.

AS for the Rain...on the Silverwood run we hit this past weekend a washed out road had hood height levels of water. unheard of made me wish I had a snorkel
