Well, everyone warned me that Rocky Road was probably NOT the best place to buy my ARB bumper, despite them offering me the best price.

Well they did screw up my order, only it looks like the error was made in my favor. I paid for a NON WINCH ARB Bumper, and they delievered one with the brackets for the winch. Oh well. Any ideas on what I can use to cover up the holes for the winch? Also, why are their 2 cut outs - in case you want to mount 2 winches?

Also, as I read through the instructions, it says that this bumper MUST NOT BE FITTED TO AN AIRBAG EQUIPPED VEHICLE. Uhh....Why? Can anyone explain that to me? Is this something I should be concerned about?

The ARB bumper was never tested on a airbag vehicle. Most 80's in Oz never had airbags and at the time when these bumpers were designed it was not a big issue. Also I guess it would take ARB more money and time to re-test with airbags etc than what it is worth for a truck that is no longer produced. All the new bars are airbag tested.

That said, search the archives and you will find discussions on these issues.

The two holes are for cable access and I believe the other is to aid airflow. That is if you have the correct bumper.

so, none of the 80 ARB Bulls is "rated" for airbag then?

Correct. No 80 ARB is airbag approved. The 100 series are. There were a couple good discussions on this topic.

I've ordered a couple things from Rocky Road and not had a problem.

uh ho. i better take off my arb and put the stock bumper back on. now i just need to find someone willing to trade me their stock bumper for my arb. also guess i need to figure out how to install a winch to the front stock bumper.

so lets see if I got this right. you got a more expensive bumper for the price of the less expensive one you order......and your complaining? ;)

Me I would never buy a non winch bumper.

stick the licsense plate over the hole.

Stole this from a post I made and found using the search function...

Oh lawdy...

The net result is that no matter how the impact gets transfered to the frame, if it is stong enough to set off the airbags, it's impacting YOU enough for the airbags to be beneficial. If the bumper crumples or is solid concrete doesn't matter a bit, where it matters-the mass of your ass!

There's a really long winded and meandering diatribe somewhere in an old post...from me...but that's about all there is too it!

dont' sweat the airbag thing. all ARBs for th 80s that I've seen have that sticker.

Leave the winch holes open -- that's what I did anyhow. I think you're better off with the winch option.

I am thinking may be he didn't buy that winch bull bar from Rocky Road, therefore he didn't want to waste Rocky Road dealer time on those questions ;)

Sorry, I could not resist too.

Ha Ha. I did buy it from Rocky Road. Part number on the side of the bumper says: 3411050. If that means anything.

Well....looks like I have to fork over the money for a winch now.

too bad that they are probably monitoring this thread and will hit you with a bill for a winch model any day now... :D

Want me to buy a non-winch and swap with you?

Yup, that is the correct part number...

But too be honest with you, I'm glad you didn't order it from me... because if I had made a similar mistake (and every shop, including me has), I would appreciate the honesty of a call. I can almost guarantee you that they would just say "sorry" and tell you to keep it FREE OF CHARGE, because shipping would negate the whole refund process.

End of my moral rant... :D

Well.....shipping isn't really a possibility anymore. The box it came in was enormous - about the size of a refigerator. I have a wood stove in my garage and decided to cut away the box, piece by piece and burn it until I got to the bumper, which was tightly wrapped in plastic. It wasn't until the cardboard was almost completely burned that I unwrapped the plastic and wondered what the cutouts were for. I thought this was the non winch bumper for awhile - then I went on the internet and looked at pictures.

I'll call Rocky Road on Monday. I'm not looking to get anything for free, but I NEED a bumper because my OEM bumper is bent to crap and has to be replaced. I liked the cleaner look of the non-winch bumper, but this is what they gave me.
