ARB bull bar question on bolts

yup, same thing, it wasn't sitting flush or level unless I notched the mount., heck i couldnt even get the bolts thru the holes(they didn't line up) without notching it, just a 1/4"

Not sure on the spacer, maybe I will leave the stack of washers in place ;) or cut some tube. Don't know what you mean by the channel idea.

the long bolt is the same way they mount 60 series bars I recall, I used a grade 2 bolts just to get it get up, will track down a 6.5" grade 8 this week.

good idea on the 60 hook, I'll have to take alook on my pile of crap for one.

for the signals, pop the turn signal light off, pop the plug off the light, the middle wire is ground, it goes to the bottom of the ARB harness plug, the other 2 wires are parking light and turn. I just put a test light on them to figure out which was which, then pluged it into the ARB harness. I used .25 male spades and just pluged them right into the ARB plug, on the Cruiser end I used Scotch locks. If you really want I an pop the light off and tell you which color to what, but if your wrong just move the spades to another conector on the ARB plug till it works right.

Don't know why it didnt sag much, it can't be the shocks, they carry no weight. But I am still gonna to springs....because I can tell the bar is on the front and hell its just gonna look better :)

Very nice, John
I had to notch my upper hole as well. It seemed not to level out properly without notching the hole.
What are you going to do for the spacer? You don’t like the channel idea?
I told you that long 200mm bolt was cheesy. And it could stand to be a littler shorter. IMHO
I am considering using my old FJ62 hook; I don’t remember it being as long.
Can you tell me exactly where you taped the clearance/turn signal lights?
What did you use for the harness connectors?
You didn’t have much sag, is this due to aftermarket shocks?

Very nice pimp! The Lightforce look very big. Overall the truck looks great w/ that ARB.

Also, that was such a great deal you got for that thing.

John, you had to use washers to fill the gap between the mount assembly and the frame?
No, No, No, you need the channel packer, ARB pn# 5846282 & you will need only two. It’s a heavy piece of steel probably .125 thk. It will hold a tad bit better/easier to install than the washers. LOL!

I have some concern using a graded hardware on the bumper. What you are referring to a grade 8 bolt. My concern is that it is very strong but, the strength is in tensile strength. There is really no shear strength. On the other hand the Grade five will give/bend keeping the bumper in place in a crash.
What do you think? I used grade”8” bolts on mine also. But I thought I would throw this out there. I’m sure it will bring some responses.

So you just used scotch lock wire taps w/ .250 spade connectors? Did you connect them real close to the plug or did you follow it down closer to the bumper?

P.S. Your bumper looks almost as nice as mine. LOL :flipoff2:

I wil l have to call up and get the packers, yeah the washers were a PITA and rather booty fabed ;)

the grade 8 grade 5 is a good question, I will ask the bolt shop when I get there(or as you said, somone will chime in) So you had to get your own hardware?

I conected the scotch locks as close to the plug as I could, the ARB harness was almost long enough, but I made a small extention harness. If you are unsure of what wire goes where, just hook up 3 wires to the OEM harness, then plug the male ends into the ARB harness will they work right ;)

I would hope you ARB looks a wee bit better..........as it I am sure more than $400 :D

Looks like my Slee T-bar and springs will be on there way soon :) Slee says the drop kit should be done next week.....so I'll do that.

I had to replace the ones with the galding problem & while I was at it, I just went ahead and replaced them all. The supplied bolts looked Taiwanese-ish. And I wanted the stronger bolts. I think the bumper will give enough not to shear off the hardened bolts. Unless in a real bad crash, and then it probably wont matter!?

Did you mean the vehicle’s plug or the arb’s harness? I was hoping to be able to trace it down a little lower/closer to the ARB lamps. If not, no big deal.

I was going to suggest at least a 2in drop. :D

LOL, I picked up the folks last night at the airport, they were coming back from OZ, mom(who is 65 and drives a 97 fzj) took a look at the ARB on the 100 and said..........."very nice, it doesn't look so sissy now" :D

LOL John, your mom rocks!

stupid question to anyone with a Sahara bar.

Is mine the same color as yours? mine looks lighter gray to me. Buddy at ARB said "it looks good that color"

But I would almost sware its never been repainted or powdercoated. Paint is the same color all the way thru(like where I had to notch the mount)

My bumper is a dark gray metallic. It ties in well with the molding around the side of the doors pretty well I think. :D
And it doesn’t look so sissy anymore!
DMX

powdercoat

Could have been powdercoated. When they did mine they baked it off first. They said that powdercoating white over black would be too drastic.

well the did a nice job and I like the color agaist the black body. Yeah I can't think what they would have matched it to either.......

That is not the stock color. Probably was color matched to the truck. Although I am not aware of any 100 series that came that color.

Ummmmmm what do you think?..............Kinda big huh? :D

John

Throw in a even larger one in the middle then everything looks balance and best part is that everyone AT ALL AGES will recognized that it stand for!

Cheers,

Landpimp, did you leave the towing lugs off when you put the bar on? I don't see them under there. I left mine on cuz I figured if the truck ever needed a tow, it'd be better if they're on.

left if off, did put the hook back on, but it hangs down and might hit on a speedbump at the mall.........gotta fix that ;)
