Is it a Toyota sponsored event? And is it always at WR? Never even been on my radar... thus the first year it is open to all?
 
Never heard of it either. I found out about the event from a buddy of mine who is doing the catering and Rance put the feelers out. Perhaps this topic should have it's own thread for discussion?

I was told about your post yesterday and I've been trying to log in since then to answer your questions, I'm not a regular on this forum and evidently I didn't have my correct log-in info or email, so I had to create a new user account.

I’m the founder of "Appalachian Toyota Round-Up", so feel free to ask me any questions you have. I invite you all to visit the website and look around, it's loaded with info and more than likely will answer a lot of your questions.

Some background on myself: I've been a Toyota off-road enthusiast and overlander since the 80's. I've owned many Toyota off-road vehicles, from lifted mini-trucks in the 80's, to an 84' 4Runner, including building a 1975 FJ40 with a Ford 302 conversion, and presently have a pair of FJC's, one of them solely purchased for becoming the new long range highway capable trail rig. Needless to say Toyota off-road rigs run in my blood.

To answer a few of your questions:

No, this was never an FJC only event, some folks wanted it to be, and I said no. Some FJC guys were looking for an east coast alternative to the summit, and that's fine, but this has always been a Toyota vehicle event, not an FJC event. I sincerely hope ALL Toyota enthusiast can come out to support the event and enjoy a reasonably priced weekend of off-roading and entertainment, and meet some new likeminded off-road enthusiast.

Landcruizerdude, you must be talking about Doug at Sweet P's, who's catering the festivities Saturday night.

Yes, this is our inaugural event, and yes this will be a yearly event held at Windrock, welcoming ALL Toyota vehicles.

No, LED light bars are not required. I guess that’s a knock towards younger FJC owners??? You know a lot of FJC owners were/are Land Cruiser owners, we’re not all named Biff or Buffy and have spiky hair with the tips dyed blonde…

This is a Toyota recognized event, and I'm currently working with TRD trying to get at least one of the new TRD PRO vehicles to the event. It's becoming more challenging now that most of the TRD PRO 4Runners are being made preorder only to the dealerships, and the 2016 TRD PRO Tacoma's don't have a ship date yet, so it's a work in progress. I'm not calling it a Toyota sponsored event yet, because we haven't received any of the advertising, or dealer sponsorship dollars yet, this is all currently being worked out with the demo vehicles.

In regards to the event being open to all vehicle makes, this was a decision I made after some Jeep guys made it clear we couldn't stop them from joining in on our trail rides because Windrock is still open to the public during our event. Childish as it maybe, they were technically correct. After talking with some friends who work at Windrock to get clarification, I was informed I could prohibit them from entering the private event area we have at Windrock for the event, but I'd have no recourse if they decided to disrupt our group trail runs. Evidently this has happened previously at Windrock, and after speaking with a few of the higher ups, the consensus was made if we opened the registration up to everyone they might lose interest and go away, and that's exactly what’s happened. I haven't heard a peep since registration opened a couple weeks ago, and no non-Toyota vehicles have registered. Would they have really showed up to an all Toyota vehicle advertised event in another make vehicle to prove a point, who knows??? I guess it’s a Jeep thing???


The premise of this event is simple, offer an organized all inclusive weekend of off-roading at the lowest price possible for the attendees, loaded with activities, good food, live bands, and great raffle prizes. We've all been to events and wondered where our $200 a person went into organizing that event. This event is different, this event was designed around a no profit structure, and if attendance grows high enough to make profit, the money will be added to the raffle prizes.


Feel free to ask any questions. Registration has only been open a couple weeks, and we're off to a good start. We have an active map on the website’s home page showing the location of people registering, if you’d like to see where people are coming from.

Please spread the word guys, let anyone know who would enjoy a fun Labor Day weekend of off-roading at Windrock.

Thanks, I plan on being back in town for GSMTR on the 9th, and I saw you guys were doing monthly meets, I'll keep an eye out and try to make it to one, or maybe several. Even though I have a house over by Sevierville, I own a machine and fabrication shop down in FL, so I'm traveling quite a bit, but I'll try to make it happen.
 
I'm still looking for an 80 and needless to say, it's been tough finding one. I found this one on craigslist but it's a pretty good drive to go look. I've contacted the seller but haven't heard back from him yet. I wanted to get your guys opinion on the price, looks like a decent price considering all the mods. The only thing I don't know is if it has lockers or not and that will be the deciding factor for me. If it does, do you think this would be worth looking at? I decided when I started my search I would take my time and find the exact one I wanted and not get in a hurry but I'm ready to get something soon. I drove to Atlanta to look at a 99 100 series and the fuel pump went out on the test drive on Friday afternoon at a busy intersection on Roswell Rd. That wasn't fun and figured it was sign to walk away. I was considering a 98 or 99 with the rear locker but after giving it some thought, I've decided since it's not gong to be a DD, I'm going to stick with an 80. Also found this one on MUD just up the road in Elizabethton but it doesn't have lockers. I really like this one, just wished it had lockers.

D@MN the prices on 80s has jumped. That was a 5k rig or less not too many months ago, what's up with that.

Anyway, make him an offer. Also, if it isn't your DD the why you need air lockers? Why not throw an aussie or spartan out back, and save up for the front slectable? I hate when folks pass up good solid rigs cause they are hung up on the lockers. Besides that, how much more would you pay if it had them?

Just my thoughts, well other than $8500 for a 94 is nuts, maybe I need to try and sell mine. The market is hot right now apparently. I mean I hope he gets it, but dang.
 
Honestly I was counting on it having lockers, I definitely wouldn't pay any more if it had them. I would also hope to get it cheaper than that but after looking for several months now, he's not too far off on price.

Anyone ever use these guys or heard anything about them? I've been looking around for prices in case I find an unlocked Cruiser and these guys came up on a search. http://skidmarxoffroad.com/
I sent them an email and their prices don't sound bad for doing an ARB air locker install. I live up in Morristown and out only offroad shop doesn't really have a clue.

I've heard of them but thats about it. Check with Lee Adkins in the club. His mud handle is my4x4fj40. Really great guy.
