I found out a little info on my fj80 front axle I was told it was a 94 model, but it is not it is earlier than that. When I went to get new brakes for it, everything I got was a lot bigger and thicker than what was on my axle. still not sure what year axle I have , but I did a brake up grade with all 94 parts and everything fits. I don't know if anyone has run it to this or if this is a up grade for the 80's but I'm putting it out there for anyone that wants the info. I can post pic and part #'s if anyone wants them.

91-92 had 15" wheels and smaller brakes to go with them. You usually can't run smaller than 16" wheels on a 93+ because of the larger brakes. I guess they figured because of the 3FE...
The FZJ80 brakes (rotors and calipers) will bolt straight onto any 80 axle and is a great upgrade for the earlier axles. The dust shield has to go but generally 15" wheels will fit. Some will need some grinding. It was actually the rear brakes on the later FF that created the need for the 16" wheels I think. I did this on mine a few years ago when I re-geared and rebuilt the knuckles.
It could also be a 94 axle and still have the smaller style brakes. 93-94 saw a random mix of both axles under 80s, they were rare but it did happen.
Only other thing is unless you swapped the knuckles you lost your ABS bungs up front and you will have shorter outer axles now as well, so you cannot swap the old drive flanges onto the new axle.
Edit: that last part doesn't pertain to you. Forgot you had 80 axles under your 4runner.

I didn't realize the odd 93-94 SF trucks came with smaller brakes. Did they also come with 15s? You've given me something else to research.

Don't think so. I believe the 15s stopped in 93.

I guess this means I will need 16" wheels sense I have a ff rear axle, I was hoping 15" would work but I have not bought the rear brakes yet to test fit the wheels.
Shawn do you have a maroon or red 80?
I'd test them before jumping on the 16s. If your BS is pretty shallow or you run spacers then your 15s might sit out far enough to clear the caliper. I have seen some FF running 15" steel wheels, so it can be done, just takes the right combo.
