Anything worthwhile doing in there while I've got the headliner off?

seems like I'm on my way to taking down the headliner.
Anything I should do while I'm in there? Like adjustments to the sunroof, checking the drains, running a wire just in case, something, anything?
This may be the opportunity of a lifetime...

you dont get any more acces to the sunroof with the headliner out, the sunroof, its tracks, and the sun shade are incased it a large fiberglass pan (the height change in the headliner is the back of the pan), you get acces to the sunroof motor but you can to to it behind the control pannel/maplight assy without taking out the headliner you do however get acces to the drains, the tubing is soft I would not run any wire down it migh poke a hole in it, water or compressed air would be a good Idea

how big are these drain tubes?

about 1/2"ID? I'll get you a better measure next when next time I have the tools out

I'd bring wiring back from the center overhead light to the rear and install a light as far in the rear as possible. Much easier to do with the headliner completely off. There is an oem one that goes back there too if you did not get the third row seats. Dan can give you more info on that though.

Good luck.

Good Idea

yup, that's the sort of thing I was thinking about. May run a couple of heavy wires. For light or a backup system or whatever. At least some good may come out of this.

Already have a light over the 3rd row but would be nice to have a strong one for tailgate parties.

Good time to run wire for roof top mounted driving lights!

where would be best to put these wires?

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more it seems like drilling a hole to run wires to the top of your roof would just make a great spot for a leak.

If you're dead set on roof mounted lights I'm sure you can seal the hole somehow- but I'm at a loss for how to do it just now...

Maybe run the wires up through the sun roof? The lights would have to be near the sun roof or you'd still have lots of wire flailing about up there.

you could run wires through the rack nutserts or the holes they leave if you remove them, seal them with rtv

if I had roof mounted lights they would get knocked off on the tight overgrown trails arround here

Anything I should do while I'm in there?

Disco ball mounting hardware and smoke pumps?

Why not fit about 40 randomly spaced white LED's into the headliner and create that must have Starry Night Effect

hmm... not a bad idea.

Or maybe better, just one LED over each seat for reading? easy to rig...

.605" OD of the sunroof pipe, witch would be the ID of the drain hose, you may be able to get 5/8 barb in there?

OK, any more clever ideas on what to do under there?
May have to put it back pretty soon, my wife wants me to remove the headliner from the middle of the living room...!
And it's only been 3 weeks or so... Wymin!!!!
:D

Or don't ........................ then Dans dogs get feed .................. :D

i replaced the entire interior of my '93 SE-R and while the headliner was off I put some sound deadener (dynomat) under there...

but then the Land Cruiser probably already has a bit more noise isolation than my econobox.

Good point! The kids have been duly warned of possible consequences, and preemptive measures taken. Besides, that is one of the reasons I may put it back on soon. Winter is coming and they may get cold living outside... :D
