Anyone use Banks Power exhaust?

I went into the local shop today to discuss upgrading the current stock exhaust on my LX470. I went in expecting to hear the differences between Flowmaster and Magnaflow, however the tech I spoke with highly suggested the Banks Power exhaust system designed for the 4.7l Toyota V8.

Here is a link to the exhaust:

He explained the FlowMaster and Magnaflow were mainly for noise, however the Banks Power system was more performance based, with the added benefit of a deeper sounding exhaust.

I searched, but could not find anything on here about other 100 Series trucks with this exhaust system...so, could anyone provide feedback on Banks Power?

Thats for a Tundra- and 3" Exhaust is probably way too much flow for the 4.7 or even 5.7-

3" is ok on a diesel but on a small V8 gas engine especially the choked off 4.7, I imagine you'll loose a lot of low end torque with out the necessary back pressure. For example model specific Borla or Doug Thorley cat back systems are 2" to 2.25".

⬆, in this case bigger is not always better.

The Tundra and LC run the same small v8, why would it matter?

Good point on the 3" outflow, I thought that was higher than the rest, but saw their technical results with increased HP and torque, so thought they may have figured something out...

I found some youtube vids of Tacomas and Tundras with the Banks system installed; I just wanted some real life feedback besides people doing burnouts next to their cell phone. Maybe the fact no one on here is talking about the exhaust system is enough indication that I should pass...and look into something else.

The exhaust tubing isnt bent or sized and the hangars wont be positioned correctly to fit a 100 series land cruiser. Im sure it could be cut and welded to work but why do that when there are match fit systems already available?

As for the Banks muffler- there is nothing special or unique about the design- its a round straight though muffler.

Your exhaust guy has no clue what what works with our trucks based on his recommendation. Check out the numerous exhaust threads and posted dyno results here to learn more.

Backing up for a second: what is your intended goal with new exhaust? Just to replace a rusted muffler or install a cat back system to achieve a specific result?

^^Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it.

I'm basically looking for a cat back system to install. My primary goal is to get added performance (even if only slight); secondary goal would be a better sounding exhaust. I'll search for the thread of dyno results.

Last summer at HIH8 there was a 100 there from Las Vegas that had the Borla cat back system- he seemed to like it.

Fwiw $200 spent on installing a Magnaflow 24” muffler on the stock system will get you a little added but subtle rumble and a fractional improvement in low/mid range throttle response. A full cat back system wont do much more unless paired with a set of headers, and even then not heaps of gains based on the dyno results.

This is a decent discussion that might help-
