I have an 03 100 that the back up camera does not work. I think it is in the camera itself. I've seen people add aftermarket cameras to factory systems without factory cameras but has anyone replace the factory camera with an aftermarket camera that came with the factory camera? I don't want to run a conversion box if I don't have to.
I think that the factory backup camera runs on 6v rather than the 12v most aftermarket cameras use. I've seen some kits on amazon with 6v cameras for Camry's. You could probably figure out how to wire something like that it, but I don't think I've seen anybody here try it.
I ended up replacing it with an aftermarket. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P914W7C?tag=ihco-20 is the one I used. I used a dremel tool to make the factory hole slightly larger. For wiring LC red went to power to the camera, LC yellow went to the center of the RCA jack, and the other two went to the grounds (one outer RCA and one to the camera ground). It didn't seem to matter which one went where. I cut the plug off the factory unit and soldered it to the new camera cords. Works great and it has bars that are a foot apart which will be handy for backing up to the trailer. This photo was in a dark garage with no lights other than stock LC back up lights.
Also, Camrys Prius etc... use a different plug. If the wires are rearranged they will work. I tried a Prius Camera and after re configuring the wiring it worked great too.
Wait, what? How does your 03 have factory back up camera components? Does it have blue tooth as well? What's the date of manufacture on your truck? Mine definitely does NOT have any of that equipment. There's a bunch of audio stuff that would be available to me if I had the 04 with BT, as Vais makes ZERO for 03's!
