anyone stuff a 38X15.5 Swamper underneath? (1 Viewer)

Well, I am getting ever so close to pulling the trigger on doing my SOA soon and I wanted to get some opinions on sticking that large a tire underneath my rig.... I know many of you have 37X12.5 with the stock axles and it looks like you have plenty of clearance but going 1 inch taller and 3 inches wider seems like I might run into some problems even running wheel spacers. At the same time that I'm doing the SOA I also plan swapping out the stock birfields with some bobby longs so I dont think that should be an issue... power also should not be an issue either as its a chev 350 and will be running 5.29s...


So any opinions... good or bad?

Just watch the backspacing with such a wide tire/rim set-up.

How about the stabilty of running tires this large on this already large rig... any issues there? We have a lot of off camber stuff here in oregon... the last thing I want to do is roll my baby.

I run 37" tires on a SOA FJ60 in Oregon.

You are verry correct about the off camber trails.

I have seen in the past 5-7 years a number of SOA wagons get rolled due to an increased center of gravity.

Tall SOA's, taller tires, and the ability to wheel on tougher trails leads to the flops.

Best bet is to keep it low and run the tire your area deems necessary

do mind giving me some of your details of your SOA set up? Are you pleased with the amount of flex you are getting from the SOA? I am also from the Portland area... hillsboro to be exact. How do you like the 37s?

SO with stock springs.
Cut and turned for correct caster.

Nothing fancy, just the right parts for the application.

As far as being pleased, it's OK, but not perfect yet.

The 37's are Military OZ Hummer tires that wear like steel and seem great when aired down out in forest trails I like to run....

They howl when I get them spinnin gon the street too...........

i have a pair of 40 i am getting ready to put on mine i am doing the spring over the axel thing right now with a 3 inch body lift its gonna be huge
i am sure you can clear them but they are really wide tires thats might be your only problem

redcorn you can make a high steer kit if you know how to weld it would have been a lot cheaper

rear disk brakes. and if you dont think thats enough then upgrade your front disks to 4runner ones.

New rotors, 1993 Four Runner calipers, FJ80 Master Cylinder and all new lines.

A power flush of the system and it stops on a dime........

Stock rear drums for now, moving to rear discs in a few weeks when I can get back to my parts stash in Indiana

2" wheel spacers - 37" MTR I thought with 4" more wide track you are " fine " not a spert car .. but nice. Never go over 120 km/h.

I have good flex I thought it helps sometimes with your new high cencer of gravity
