Scratched an itch today by going to the wreckers. Picked up a square bezel (just for a rainy day), and a hood ornament of a '69. au$45 so the price was right for a lazy saturday morning with nothing much to do!

Anyway, the hood ornament is nice and straight but will need restoring before I mount it. It has some very small rust spots/bubbles pushing through the chrome outer and the underside has some rust flaking but nothing too serious. I already have an ornament mounted on my truck but my '84 bonnet must have a slightly tighter curve (front to back) than the older hoods that came with the ornament and I kind of butchered it a little while bending it to fit a couple of years ago. You wouldn't notice it but it bugs me and finding another one at the wreckers was too good an opportunity to let go!

So, any tips on getting this "new" one back to pristine condition? Anyone been there? Anything I should or shouldn't do? I presume it will have to be re-chromed, any problems with this?

P.S. Please don't flame me for putting a '69 hood ornament on my '84! I like factory bling and they should never have stopped making these!

I had one done at http://www.superiorchrome.com/ . Think it was $50 or so to have re-chromed. It looks brand new!
