Anyone ready for some BFG All Terrains in 285-75-16's? $159 each!

IIRC, it's fine to take some wheels to Costco and have them put whatever tires on. Just tell them it's for decorating your living room... :)

slight bit of a pain, though of course, but eh...

Yep you're exactly right. I used to have a highly modified Jeep Cherokee/XJ and I bought 35x12.50 Wrangler MTRs for it. I pulled up and they said no way we can't mount those we can only mount up to a 235x75x15 (roughly a 29" tire). So I drove home, got in my friend's Tacoma with the Jeep wheels and tires in the bed and came right back and just said these were spares and I just wanted them mounted and they said no problem! It makes some sense from a liability standpoint I suppose, but I don't see why they would mount 4 tires on wheels then without question. :meh:

Just FYI to everyone, if you get the E load rated tires, they're NOT Severe Weather certified. Basically means worse snow traction than the Load Range D tires. They'll also have a harsher ride, though may not be as apparent on a 285/75.

Yes, exactly why I went with the D rated tires! =]

2 more days until the new hoops arrive! Now I just have to find a competent installer. Ugh.

Kinda hard to put four LC wheels in the back of an ES350, eh? And really, if you're going to that much trouble is't that a sign that maybe it's not such a great deal after all? Plus the complete lack of service...

I've got E's in a 295/70R18 and no complaints about the ride. At 42 psig they're a little firmer than stock, but the LC was a little floaty out of the box anyway.

I thought I had my mind made up to try out the 305/70-16 BFG ATKOs since they are SO amazingly cheap at Onlinetires, and since they didn't seem to stock Nitto Terra Grapplers.

I refreshed their page today searching for more 305 options, and they added the Nitto TGs, in 305/70-16, for only $163 each!

Now I have to decide all over again! A ~$6 between the two tires isn't exactly earth shattering as far as decision making, but that is some awesome pricing...and it makes for a tough choice.

Definitely the TG! You won't be disappointed. Others commented about the ATKO's tendency for sidewall punctures.

I was running the TGs on my Yukon (which I sold finally), and LOVED them. I guess I oughta stick to what I know, eh? ;)

I might switch to KM2s if I get into more hardcore offroad stuff, but for right now I think that the Nittos are the ticket...

And they're :princess: approved so you're sleep in your comfy bed rather than out with the pooch!

Fuzz - TG's I had down right sucked in snow. Not talking 12" deep. Just packed snow on road. Back end felt very squirrely and just felt unstable period. Switched to KO's and problem solved. Others might have had better existence with TG's, but I won't be making that $900+ mistake again.

Cackalak: Terra or Trails? I had the Terra's in a couple of inches of packed snow two weeks ago and I thought they were great. The KO's do have the 'snowflake' so I'm sure they're better, but no problemo for me. Better that the LTX's or Duelers.

Terra Grapplers. Maybe it was a bad batch, I don't know. But definitely not taking the $900 chance again, though. Another thing is, the KO's wore a lot better, too. I think I got 30-35k from TG's and currently at 50k on KO's. Maybe 10k left, though.

I was on the fence, but I remember someone posting that 9 out of 10 guys with TG's help guys with KO's change flats. No direct experience, but there were a couple of mudders confirming the rumor so it pushed me over the edge. But like I say, no problem in the snow and overall great tire.

I just priced them the other day
$398au each for 285-75r16 you guys very lucky

Haven't heard that before. Sidewall strength definitely goes to BFG, though. Although I never had failures in either tire. Rumors are just that. Rumors. And on the Internet, the net effect is in multiples of a 100.

Well, it's rumors here on mud so I guess I need to throw away everything else I read here too! :) https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/425454-best-18-tire-2.html#post6004330

What makes you think the BFG ATKO's have a higher sidewall strength than the Terra G's?

It's actual fact. Looking at each of the respective websites, TG is 2-ply and KO is 3-ply. Also, only KO's say they can be aired down. No mention of this on TG. (I have aired down on both with no problems, though). But to actually advertise that would mean they trust their product more, IMO.

And, yep, most of the stuff you read on here is either BS or overblown rumors of reality. (ie - front diff issue. Spoke directly to a very well respected local mudder who most people here know, and he says it's just blown way out of proportion here.)

Anyone run the Goodyear Silent Armor? I have them on my truck, and was quite happy in snow and slush. Can't speak for offroad, my truck was a poser.

So the tires arrived as scheduled earlier this week from discounttiredirect.com. Had a local shop mount/balance them, black side wall out of course... I love them!
