I've been looking for posts and have seen other swaps. I love the 80 series bodystyle but the 100 series engine power would be nice to have in the 80. I know the supercharger is available I've always been partial to v-8's. Has anyone done a conversion while retaining the rest of the 80 series 4wd driveline? I'm just curious about this as I'm looking for a 95 cruiser now....just thinking about interesting future mods

the search function is really cool,
Yes it ahs been done, well not a 100 series per se but a tundra v-8 block,
gentleman whose name escapes me who works for a toyota dealer in Salt Lake City.
might check wasatch cruisers for more info.

I'm looking specifically for 100 series engine swaps, didn't see any in search

100 engine = 2UZFE
Tundra engine = 2UZFE

Transmission for the late model 80 and the early model 100 are the same.
Is there something specific about the 100 series you want/need?

The V8 used in the Tundra/Sequoia/4Runner is the same as the 100. In fact the horsepower rating is higher in the trucks as opposed to the 100.

Not to burst your bubble but a forced induction 1FZ spanks the naturally aspirated V8 quite nicely......:D

Jeez Dan, don't go getting Shott's panties in a bunch again. I never heard whether he tested the waters at Moab or not. By waters I mean mixed w/ methanol and spritzed into the intake of course ;)

For all of the head ache and expense of doing the V8 swap I think you can do much better with a hi-po rebuild on the 1FZ-FE like Robbie has done and Bjowett are doing. That in and of itself will easily keep up with the V8. Add any type of forced induction on top of that and you'll be checking out the V8 in the rearview. I know Christo is really close to having the turbocharger ready for the V8 but that is still some fairly unknown territory. If you are really key on a V8 just get an older and cheaper cruiser and drop a serious GM one in there. It's much cheaper and easier to get more hp.

Just curious what the rebuild would cost and how much HP/TQ gain would you get? Sounds interesting...

I agree with the rest, why the V8 swap? I too considered this route until looking into the matter further. If you consider that torgue is HP x torque/5252 divided by RPM and horsepower is RPM x torque/5252 then the V8, on paper anyways, doesn't have enough over the i-6 to justify the cost of a swap. The 1FZFE is a 4.477 liter where as the 2UZFE is a 4.664 Liter. That is a marginal .187 liter difference. Granted you may be able to get the V8 to spin faster but the 1FZFE with its longer stroke are what make it a legendary off road machine. If more power is what you are looking for then for much less money you can bolt on a TRD supercharger or a Turbo system if you can find one for the 1FZFE, and have enough money left over for that lift and bigger tires.

His name is Will Carroll and oddly enough I had a conversation with him about it yesterday. Overall he wasn't happy with the final product in that the customer decided to stop spending the money about half way through the swap. Having talked with Will about the job I would never personally consider doing the conversion. The time and expense far outweighs the benefit. I'd think it would be cheaper and easier to do a 1HD or HZ swap after hearing all the details.

You need a larger V-8, i.e., 5.7 liter Chevy! I have a hot 350 mated to the A440F and it puts out plenty of power while retaining the full time 4wd. No regrets and it's much cheaper than sourcing a 2UZFE that has less power and spendy parts.

Thanks Dave,
at any rate when the ole 3FE finally lays down to rest it will be sbc time in my house.....
just gotta figure out how to bypass the smog cops
