Anyone paying a ton for insurance?

Man, there's definitely a trend here. And we're in the same boat. Homeowner's just dropped us due to fire risk. We're in Idaho Falls. The only fires we've had were caused by stupid humans setting off fireworks in July. Never impacted by an actual wildfire. New premium almost doubled.

Same with our vehicles. Renewal this year has gone up around 50%. No claims and clean driving records.

Actively shopping around...

Homeowners has been brutal. Shopping around got me a 60% increase instead of 100%

Try owning a 2013 Kia..... out of my 1995 80, 2016 LX and the Kia.... it has the highest liability cost because apparently people like to steal them and I have to pay the price for that.....

And you're paying taxes for the police, prosecutors, and penitentiary system which are supposed to protect you from it!

My 2008 LC insurance decreased by $20 and my 2017 4Runner Pro increased by $100 (both for a 6 month premium). Last year they both increased by $120 or so. Very random. I’m in California where prices are out of control. My wife paid $7 for a half gallon of milk tonight..

It really depends on location but everyone is right - premiums have gone way up.

For example, I've moved a bit over the last few years and have kept the same coverage on my 2013 LX. Parked in garage, same mileage allotment. No claims/tickets in a VERY long time (6+ yrs) and always living in a decent zip code. 6-month price, same company throughout. Oldest -> most recent.

  • Scottsdale, AZ (full glass coverage) - $703
  • Dallas, TX - $977
  • Kansas City, MO - $706

I suspect given the time change (2-3 years), the AZ price is now closer in line with TX and TX price is way over $1K for 6/mos. Crazy.

USAA is notoriously terribly expensive for kids on the policy. Right now granted for a single driver im paying $150/mo for USAA for my Landcruiser.

Insurance has for sure gone up. Mine went up about 20% but I’m better off than some of the posts here. I pay $1040/year for my 2015 LC.

Price is one thing but the quality of coverage is also very important. When I totaled my 2013 the insurance co ultimately gave me a fair value (took some argument/negotiation) that included the value of my substantial mods. Most insurance policies would not do that without a special rider or a declared value policy.

When you go shopping, make sure you understand the policy and what it covers and also how they will value your rig, especially if you have mods. The hard part is knowing how any insurance co will actually treat you if you make a claim regardless of what the policy says.

Just a heads up about U sa A - they are not the insurance company of your fathers generation. I know of those personally (dis)affected by policy holders who haven't been paid out by US A A when other "lower tier" insurance agencies have for similar circumstances. I heard they were great in years past. This is not the case anymore. If their rates are high, shop around and leave them.

I dropped everything to the minimum on my 2008. I'm going to do the same on the other cars. It's a crisis across the entire industry now.

I've only had one insurance claim in 30 years of driving.

Edit: And my wife literally drove through a fence on icy roads 4 years ago, and I didn't fix anything due to the steel bumper.
