I just got a 2.5 heavy/med lift from OME and am sure I am going to need some help putting it on as I have no idea what I'm doing and would like to save the couple hundred bucks for install to put towards sliders. Any help greatly appreciated.

Installing the lift on an 80 is a good place to start your experience ... the coil springs are easier to install than leaf springs. Did you buy a complete kit? (springs, shocks, caster correction bushings, bushing driver) I ask because having everything lined up will make your life much easier when you start the install. You should include (4) good jack stands and a floor jack (borrowed or purchased) plus your normal wrenches. You will also need access to a hydraulic press. It is not reasonable to try driving out the old bushings and then driving in the new caster correction bushings.

A final thing that I did was make a jig out of wood to get the bolt hole spacings correct when I pressed in the caster correction bushings. Before pressing out the old, I clamped a 2"by4" to the arm and then match drilled through the bushing holes into the wood. Then when I lined up the caster correction bushings, the jig allowed me to be certain that the holes had the proper spacing before pressing them in. The instructions on the Slee website were a very helpful supplement to the instruction that came with the kit that I installed (Ironman from Australia), so you may want to do a little advance reading (homework).

I can certainly help you out. I did mine not too long ago and it wasn't bad at all. I did not do my bushings though so I would have no idea about those (other than take them somewhere to be pressed in). I have 4 good jackstands, floor jack, and all the other tools needed. I do not have air tools though and that would make things a lot faster. I used a pickle fork for the steering damp. since I did not care about ruining the old one (I have a pickle fork). The only thing I don't really have is much time. I will not be back from New York until Friday and next weekend is already taken up. I could possibly do it during the week if I can convince my boss that I am going to see a client or potential client (which would not be hard to do). I have space at my house if you need it. I don't know how much room you have where you are at. Either way is fine for me. I guess what I am trying to say is that I would love to help if you are not dying to do it ASAP and we can get our schedules together. Let me know, you have my number.

I too would help, but as with Smitty, this week is not good. You probably want to get it ready for the club run comming up.....rite? I have all the tools, including air and access to a press. If you don't get it in this week, let me know. I can see what tyme I have nest week.

Tony,
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the offer. I think that we are going to be able to work something out next week with Smitty and Larry, if things don't work out due to their time commitments, I'll definitely give you a buzz. Again, Greatly Appreciated!

I can help. If you have the parts and can look up and find Gay Construction in Atlanta and make it there before 7PM we can do it TODAY.

This is no joke :)

Dan,
I just saw your post, and thank you very much, I really appreciate it. The kit, arb front bumper, etc. is all sitting at a warehouse as it wouldn't fit well at my condo. I just called and you can only pick up during the week so I am trying to work out a time for next week. Larry offered his shop next friday but is crunched on time, so hopefully if Smitty can help out then we can crank it out. If they can't help next week I"ll check and see if you or Tony might have some time. Thanks again guys for all the help and offers, really a great group on here and I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody better. Hopefully we can also get that knuckle group project going that was talked about on the other thread to get everybody together to work on our cruisers and have a few beers! Though, considering my wrenching I better work then drink!

Just PM me or email me through this site and I will get back with you.

I just wanted to thank Larry and Smitty for all their help putting my lift, cdl switch, arb, brake lines, etc on this friday, they selflessly gave of their time and effort to get it all done and I really appreciate it! Now if we can just get that knuckle party going!

Drew,
It was a pleasure to help out with your truck and get to work with you & Smitty. Also when you packed for home yesterday, you left your factory bumper, steering stabilizer and some MSP in the shop. When I picked up the tools today, I gathered all these together and set them aside so you can pick them at your pleasure.
