Anyone mount ARB 2500 Awning to stock roof rack?

Very good information on this thread.

What Awnings are you guys using besides people with 2500?

I did the same thing @RET2 did back on page 3 and cut a couple of aluminum brackets. Used T bolts to secure the brackets to the factory rail. It takes me about 5 minutes to install or remove the awning. I don't leave it installed full time. The height is perfect for my 'short' cruiser and me being 6'3". This is a 8' Smittybilt awning I picked up used locally.

Almost singlehandedly we're putting the $50 bracket guys out of business
I did have to buy the aluminum sheet and T-bolts, so somebody made a profit :p

Awning bracket position mounting question: High or flipped over Low ?

High mount position will provide a little more headroom under the awning and more runoff slope when it rains, but sticks up pretty high during transport.

Low mount position hugs the truck closer- probably will look better, but sticks out further and headroom is less.

I think I have my answer but open to thoughts on the subject.

A potential issue is being able to open doors without interference? Take the high route. FYI I wouldn't trust the zip ties for more than 2 seconds.

Thanks for the input guys-

Either will work- high is practical- low might look a little better. Doors clear in the low position. The high position would provide 3 mounting points of the bracket to the load bar- which is stronger. Flipped upside down the bracket supports get in the way of the load bar and limit the mount area to 2 mounting points to the load bar.

Awning shows up Monday - I'll play around with mount positions then.

This is a great thread- appreciate the suggestions.

@87warrior sent me the pdf template for the brackets (Thanks!). I have not found an awning to suit my budget (practically non-existent :frown: ) so I have yet to make the brackets.
I have also been thinking if these nifty brackets can be used to mount my traction boards - last few times I have used them they were absolutely filthy and I seriously thought about tossing them out instead of carrying them inside

The arb 2500x2500 awning is $289 with free shipping at a few different places. Some will give 5-10% discount (if you ask). IMO this is a nice awning for the $ . If you'r looking for cheaper: smittybuilt, or last resort DIY with a blue tarp and some tent poles.

Any way we can get a copy of the PDF?

Ask and you will receive, enjoy. FYI dimensions are plus or minus, design was based on being able to cut with a simple abrasive cut-off saw.

This is the template of the bracket I made. Link to Google Drive. The PDF is not dimensioned, but print it at 100% scale and it will print out actual size.

Has anyone found a way to use a quick release bracket from arb/ironman?
ARB has 3 different quick release brackets that still require you to tighten a nut... I've used the same plastic knobs that @87warrior used for my awnings and they spin off in a few seconds and don't require a tool..
