Anyone mount ARB 2500 Awning to stock roof rack?

Here is how I did mine (obviously I had not tightened the bolts yet). Similar to how others did it. ARB brackets with a generic hardware store plate on the bottom. The ARB brackets are nice and sturdy.

Really that simple, huh? Three holes in the factory roof racks and just mounted the ARB bracket with the plate on the bottom? Would you happen to have any photos of the awning mounted?

It should be yeah,

I have a set of the ARB plates as well but ended up using the Ragos since I had them and scored IMHO a pretty sweet deal on the whole setup.

My awning should be up and on this weekend.

Best pic I have for now. I read about a million posts before I actually did it. I think others were concerned about the added height on shorter garages when mounting on top of the roof rack, so may not work for all. I also set it back a bit, which makes it easier to attach instead of trying to hold it. I would eventually like to do some kind of quick release, but this will do for now.

full disclaimer, I actually haven't rolled the awning out yet, I'm still working on finishing up timing belt, etc...

Greenbean that looks perfect. You've convinced me to buy these brackets.

Question: are those brackets listed under 4runner on their site? I clicked on land cruiser but it said no products available. Just want your input on the ones you bought.

Just a heads up on the Rago mounts - I installed mine Saturday, and found that the bolts they supply are about 1/8" too short - they do not engage the nylon insert in the lock nuts. I found that they would just reach the nylon if I only used a washer on the slotted side of the bracket. (other option, of course, is to use your own bolts - I believe they are 1/4" 20 thread.) Perhaps yours are a different length - just check them out. Other than that - I like them!

If it’s the stainless hardware that sets the depth of the mounting surface in/out then yeah mine captured the nylon just barely but I know you want those threaded ends to be as short as possible in case you need to move the whole bracket up or down.

This is mine, note I did add stainless fender washers to the ARB bolts so as not to mar up the powder coating as bad with the lock nuts ARB provided.

Honestly since I now know that my awning sits fine and the cover doesn’t touch the rig I’ll probably replace them with a touch tad longer ones. I set mine “out” all the way too.

Ok. I ordered the Rago brackets for the 4-runner instead of the GX470. Do you think they are the same? There weren’t part numbers shown anywhere.

I guess I could call them Monday to ask and change my order if needed.

The 4 runner ones work just fine....Thats what I used. Pretty sure they are both the same.

For anyone wondering about hardware, I can confirm that Strut Channel Nuts (3/8"-16) do fit into the factory channel. They require a bit of fishing to get them positioned. I used McMaster-Carr P/N 3259T32.

Note: I installed them backwards (serrated tooth section outboard) and with them twisted at an angle (the factory track is not tall enough to allow them to be perpendicular to the track slot)

I can also confirm that the Fully Threaded T-Slot Nuts (3/8-16) do NOT fit. The leg of the T is too wide for the opening.

Does this allow you to mount the Rago mounts without pulling the end caps off?

I don't think so but I'd like a confirmation from those who have installed it.

You have to get the channel nuts into the side rail, so at least one end cap has to come off.

It's usually easier for me to take the whole rack off. If you can't slide the 2 piece mount down the rail, you have to bolt it together around the side rail and make many partial turns with the wrench to tighten it up.

I recently bought an ARB 2500 awning and turned to this thread for some great info on mounting it. After evaluating each option, I decided to go with a similar but different route. Hopefully this helps someone else:

I mounted the awning to my Yakima Load Warrior basket by drilling 3/8" holes through the bottom of the frame. With a combination of bolts, lock nuts, washers, and a heavy duty bracket; this was mounted for less than $20.

To connect the awning to the bracket, I took standard 1/4" hex bolts and ground down two sides with an angle grinder till they slid into the awning mounts.

Let me know if you have any questions, advise, or general feedback. Thanks!
