Found behind my factory head unit. Installer felt confident that it was not OEM equipment.

mystery.webp

So many little tiny wires going in and out of places. I wouldn't know enough to do that but should maybe check the dvd for function. Never used it.

Thats the NSA GPS uploader, I would leave it alone.

Seriously though, can you tell what is in the PVC cap? Is it a relay or or can you tell?
It looks like a USA make Lasco PVC fitting so most likely a DIY job but it's hard to tell from the pic.

If you post which wire colors and which connector is involved another member could probably figure it out from the electrical wiring diagrams.

It's a lasco PVC cap (those are the only markings), wires go in and their entry is sealed. Installer thought it might indeed be a relay of some kind.

Maybe the previous owners wife was tracking him? NSA has been listening to me for years so no big surprise if that's what it is!

I bet Eric Holder knows what it is....

I can confirm it is definitely NOT OEM :whoops:

did you try twisting it to see if water comes out someplace? :)

not ticking or water, but oozing a purplish viscous liquid.....

not really.

seriously, no one knows? now I'm getting worried!

sorry to be an idiot, but what exactly does it mean to track wires? this thing is attached to some wires that are in a harness many that disappear into a plug of some sort. do you mean I should state the colors this thing is attached to? because beyond that I'm not sure how I could track anything.

Track the wires it's connected to, that will give you a better idea of what's its connected to, and what it may do. Or rip it out and see what it does.

When tracing the wires in the harness, to the plugs, what are the plugs connected to? The nav unit? Maybe try removing the plastic cap from the wiring/relay inside...

Yes, post up (photos help) which connector the wires go into, if the wires are not marked, then state the colors and wire count. On the other side of the plug, see if there are any markings on the wires. Hopefully, with that info we can look at the wiring diagrams and figure out what it is connected to.

Hope that helps.

Mystery solved I think. Popped a DVD into the changer and drove around, up to about 50 mph and the video played on. Damn that's a crappy display though!
