Sporin, I appreciate the thought, but ten and a half is too rich for my blood.

Good thing I've never driven a V8 60 though, so I won't know what I'm missing.

One of the projects I'd like to do is build up a high comp 2F for the truck - should be fun. Not expexting any crazy hp, just something to do to get in there. And a 5 speed conversion.

I know, I've never spent more then $3k on a truck, I just don't have the budget either. :D :D :D

A well tuned 2F and the H55 is a GREAT combo, plenty of power and reasonable economy. An H55 changes everything...for the better.

I'm such a miser though, when you consider how CHEAPLY you can put together a 350, and how readily parts are available, etc. it's a tough choice (if you aren't a Toyota purist)

Dream Family Cruiser for me is a rust free FJ60 with a fuel injected crate 350, an H55, a mild OME lift, 33x10.5 BFG T's, ARB's front and rear, lots of armor, and maybe a ToyBox for stupid-low® crawl speeds.

I'd load up the family and drive that thing from here in Vermont, to Mexico, to Alaska, to Moab...anywhere life would take us. The perfect family expedition rig (IMO).

Sounds just about right - although as I have no family (28, single, available if you know any cute girls) I'd have to fill those 4 seats another way. hmmm - ASU volleyball team?

yes cruisergreg i know what you mean about cars in storage. ive bought a couple out of storage myself: a 58 lotus seven and a 356 cabriolet, plus kept a 54 MGTF in storage for a few years. so i was aware of the issues having to do with storage. this guy says he always stores them properly but you certainly have a point. note i also said (or implied) i was taking the guys word and hadnt actually seen the truck yet.

but thanks for the valuation, i suppose im overvaluing it. im going to talk to him this weekend and actually examine the truck so maybe he will let it off for 6 or so which i would consider a bargain (but maybe not relatively speaking).

thanks again for reminding me of the color of the sky. seems to me considering the values you state (and you seem to be backed up by other sources ive since checked) that i got a bit taken on my 60 but what the hell that was a while ago and ive dumped so much into it the beginning cost is pretty moot at this point.

one love

zero rust Az 84

white 60 I am selling goog runner but I am running out of tikker time. It will be posted in ads soon

Look around on the west coast. Good 60's are not hard to find.

Well the dark grey cruiser is going in for an inspection today. There's another, an 85, which is supposedly pristine, 138k miles, new rims (factory rims included, new bfgs, to quote the owner "not a speck of rust, perfect condition"), that he's asking 6.5k for. this is the dark copper champagne color, which is growing on me. Oh, and it's a repaint as of a couple of years ago - trim, windows, everything out. I think it's coming down between these two - if I pass on the dark grey one (roof rust, posted above) I'll pass on the seller's info with his permission so someone can grab it.

Both of them are CA trucks - I gave up on the east coast a while back, although cruiser creations has a sweet blue 60 in stock that looks really clean. Just not my stee-lo.

Thanks for the thought - the first truck scares me - dark blue repaint with white door jambs? I think he's either hiding something or he does things half-assed, neither of which inspires confidence.

The florida truck, I spoke to the guy and his reserve is 6200 (or it was the last go-around), which is too much imho. Plus, he just didn't know a lot about the truck at all. If I was closer, I'd just go look at it, but being this far away, that's a warning sign that I just can't drop 6 large on.

The two trucks I'm looking at are both good for different reasons - the grey truck has some roof rust, but hopefully that's it and he's done a shytload of maintenance and upkeep. The champagne, well if it's anything like he's saying, and i have reason to believe it is, then it's an awesome, pristine, stock-except-for-rims truck. which would be good. It'll probably come down to one of those two, and if not, the lesson I've learned is that there are many of these trucks to be had.

Unfortunately, they are getting more popular, both as drivers and rigs, so good examples are getting harder to find.

I looked for 4-5 months on line, and after a friend who knew I was looking for one sent me an emial, the lady had it in the local paper where is was not looking. I looked at it the same day, gave deposit and gave cash next day. It the was 20min from my house, I live in florida and almost went to AZ to get one. I paid 4,700.00 1987 60 has 203k but the engine has less than 10k, I have all paperwork. Alost everthing under the hood is new, ps pump, clutch, water pump, fuel pump all new hoses, belts, AC cond ext. three small rust spots. Take your time and have cash in hand, if it is a good deal it wont last. That one that is in the 352 area code is around an hour drive and it it is still there by the weekend I am going to look at it for fun.

If you are still looking for a rust free 60, I have one that I have to sell. I am not in a hurry, but I will eventually sell it. It is an 85 with tan/sand color with absolutly zero rust. It has 124K on original motor and the only modification that I have done is an MP3 player in the glove box. It still has the original radio but it is diconnected. I know the previous two owners and I bought it at 104K. The first owner drove it until 34K and gave it to their grand daughter because the truck was too big. The grand daughter and her husband drove it for a while back and forth as a commuting truck. When the gas prices got to about $1.75 they ended up buying an Outback and I bought it from them. I wish gas was still that price. I have been after the truck since I fist saw it back at 70K miles. Upgrades; music, hitch, K&N and that is it. Body; the truck is about an 8. Mechanics 9 and interior is an 8. The reason I am selling it is because I bought my wife an fj80 and a 40 for myself. Make me a sensable offer.
I live in Colorado.

IMO for 6.5K this cruiser seems like the much better deal, maybe even 6K hard to say w/o pics. The "ruff rot cruiser" I would stay away for that amount of money, maybe if it was 3.5-4K. That roof rot wont be cheap to fix, plus it's a good indication of what else might be hidding in all the different crevases. I don't want to jump on anyones toes, just my .02. Good deals are out there, I waited almost six untill I found my 60, let me tell it was hard, but patience paid off.

Good luck-

Just saw this thread after posting on your thread on the For Sale forum. I've got a nice grey FJ62 for sale that I'd take $6500 for. Two owner, west texas (no rust), 164K, new tires and brakes. If you're planning to swap a 5 speed in then you might as well look at 62s as well. Swapping the auto out is not that much harder than swapping out the 4 speed in the 60s and the end result has the added benefit of EFI.

I bought a 88 rust free fj60 in oaklahoma city. I want all the mechanicals electricals and frame. You can have the good body and good interior for $500 when im done stripping the rest. It will be in florida. If interested call 954 825 3283 (dave) I think its the color you want but im not sure. I can find out.

bumping this bad boy to the top. One truck failed the ppi - 3-5k worth of work necessary, according to the wrench, and another seller just dropped off the face of the earth.

Cpip, the truck's beautiful, but I think I'm set on a 60 - love the manual, and I think I'm down with carbuerators (sp?)

So, anyone seen a good rust-free 60 lately?

the body doesn't look straight to me. looks like it took a pretty good hit on the left side.
