Anyone install one of these autodim mirror?

Oh, man! Pics? HA!

Sorry.

Bought the button and glue at CarQuest...around $10, total. As it was still cool here in MI, put a shop lamp on the outside of the windshield to warm it up a bit (glue worked best at 50-70 F). The stuff set almost immediately...like 20 seconds. I let it sit for a couple hours.

The CDan plan came with a full set of Scion instructions...just find the hot, ground, and switched wires on the sunroof switch/maplight module, and bingo. (For you 1/2  cats, a continuity tester will confirm whats hot and whats not very easily.) The kit even had splices for all three wires. CDan recommended marking the outside of the windshield where you wanted to place the button...centered, and however high you wanted it.

I cut off the 'base' of the roof mounted mirror, re-installed it (careful not to nick the wires for the new mirror) and put the cover back on!

Sorry for no pics...didn't even occur to me to do such a thing!

How about a final product picture? I guess I want to see how "cutting" the old one down/off looks. Did you pull the sunroof swith/map light housing to run the wires into and find power?

Thanks!

Yeah, sure...just remember, I'm at work, so maybe later tonight or tomorrow. Promise.

Remove the switch/light module from the roof (you don't necessarily have to unplug it), remove the mirror (THREE screws!) and the sunvisor clips. The roofliner is definitely flexible enough to feed your wiring harness through at the windshield.

Whoops...learning....

Sigh! Finally.

I'll try to get some more informative shots here in a bit...ask any questions you feel like...I'll also try to give a little more detail on the pitfalls that I encountered. (Ultimately, suh-weet mirror to have in the truck...from the drivers seat, nothing disappoints/all good!)

sc40 can you takea pic from the inside please?

Already have it downloaded at work, and in shrunken format, to boot. I'll post tomorrow...if I don't go over my allotment.

I was just thinking, this new mirror seemed bigger than the old one. Whip out the trusty tape measure, and? It IS! 1-1/2" wider! No wonder CDan was so adamant about centering the button onto the windshield. (Romer calls him shaman, I call him Big Kahuna. All seeing, all knowing and omnipotent.) Driver side visor doesn't hit, but passenger side grazes (someone didn't listen to CDan, and his mirror is slightly off-center). :o

Good enough, SC?

I'd like to see a shot in the evening with the mood light?. . . see what that's about.

Interior Pics

Here are a couple pics from the inside. (Wasn't able to get clear ones of the mood lights...I'll try again in a couple days...off on a business trip tonight.)

Nicely done. I'm about to install a new mirror to but realize I need an 80 series bracket to make it fit. Where did you buy yours from? Thanks

Just in case nobody else knows, Slee has a Centrex mirror for sale in their used equipment section.

You don't.

You will have to buy a Chrysler-style "button" and glue it to the windshield.

Mirror

C'dan,
Would the install be the same for my 96 Lx450? And do you have a recommendation between any of the mirrors, Gentech, Centrex or the Scion? Thanks!

I did a similiar mod back in 2000 with the mirror shown below. It is quite large, but I got it to fit between the ears of the visors. It offers autodim, compass, and outside temp (with the sensor mounted to the bottom of my ARB bar just inside and up enough to protect it). I don't have any mood lighting or homelink though :frown:

CDan,

What kind of glue do you recommend and where can I find that button?

Miescha,

I have the same color interior as you. Where did you get those plugs to cover up your holes from the OEM mirror?

When you buy the button, ask them for the glue kit...one of those plastic tubes with a glass vial inside that you bend and break the glass, and the resultant glue will hold the button on, with you just pressing the button in place for seconds. (I looked for a PM I'd sent a fellow MUDDER, but it had been deleted. I also placed a shop lamp on the outside of the windshield, to warm that baby up, making sure I got great adhesion and reaction from the glue.)

As previously posted, just make sure you're very well centered on the windshield.

Instead of glomming onto plugs to fill the holes in the headliner, I bought a cheapie mirror from the For Sale section, hack-sawed the mount, and then re-clipped the cover. (You can barely see the cover in my interior pics.)

Good luck!
