When talking volume of stacked fire wood make sure that you and the guy supplying it are on the same terms. A true cord is 4'X4'X8', as pictured below. a FACE cord is generally 4'X8'X one row of wood, or aprox 1/3 of a true cord. Most sellers using the term cord actually mean a face cord. Around here most sell by the pick up or dump truck load. I get a dump bed load, guessing about a cord and a half for $245. best so far was a guy selling "long bed" loads. Shows up and it's a short bed. He swore his truck was a long bed, even when I parked mine next to it.

Buyer beware

I appreciate your concern! But I am aware of the difference. This is my first year seeking firewood outside of my own backyard, so if you have any recommendations on local sellers that would be great, too.

Yeah, he took the lower offer I made and went on his merry way. The guy that supplies me now is a good sized tree guy and sells a bunch of fire wood, always good stuff. He sells off the not so good stuff to other firewood guys. Perhaps there is a similar guy in the Asheville area, I'd think so.
