Since cancer consumed my beloved GWP Sieg a couple months ago I'm in the discovery mode for my next pup and wondering about Pudelpointers. The biggest attraction to this breed is its no shed coat. But l'd like to hear from anyone using this breed for serious upland pointing and retrieving. I'm no longer a duck/goose hunter so water performance isn't a factor for me.

Looking at Dreamworks dogs in Bridgeport CA...

Can't help you there. But we have a Braque du Bourbonnais pointer. Short hair, very light shedding, amazing in the field and as loving as can be at home. I'm happy to send you pics or any info you want. We've become pretty close with the breeder and we're waiting for the right pup and we'll have another soon. They are a very soft breed and respond better to calm voice commands as opposed to firm ones. Very needy in the fact that they love to be around you. Loving to a fault......if she could fit in my pocket, she'd climb right in. Easily trainable and eager to hunt and please.

Rufnit Mystic is our sweet girl. We call her Libby.

Edit: sorry to hear about losing your companion....they become family no question about it.
BdB's aren't much for water dogs, I had to jump in and save Libby the first time she went into the river. She's a field dog 100%.

Glad to hear your looking spress! Post up what you decide to go with.

B, I decided to put a deposit down on a Pudelpointer from Mark Westerlund/Dreamworks Kennel for first pic of a litter to be late next spring: http://dreamworkgundogs.com/Homeframe.htm

I was able to work over 6 of his dogs: 3-females and 3-males. They were all in the 1-1/2-2 year old frame with the exception of the oldest female at 4yrs.

It was a hot day in the mid-80's on super thick tall grass. Live pigeons, pointing, retrieving and tracking. I was super impressed.

Although Sieg was an incredible animal and upland hunter I wanted/needed a breeder closer to home this time. Mark's a big time hunter as well as navhda expert...although the field trials/navhda doesn't mean a thing to me for what I need/want. I also like the fact these dogs don't shed, pretty darn smart (from the Pudel/Poodle side) and smaller animals overall.

He's going to breed two of the young females with whelping in the May 2013 timeframe and first pick for me thereafter. I'm going to hunt over the Dam next month to push my certainty to 100% ;)

I was sure I wanted another male but after working over 3 of each the female in this breed definitely gets my nod.

Thank you and thank you!

Spress.... did you pick your pup yet? Late spring to your house means picking your choice right about now. We are adding another companion this fall, getting excited about it.

Not yet...breeding to start next month with whelping in May sometime and then my round trips to Bridgeport CA will commence...of course assuming breeding and drop goes A-OK ;)

But I'm starting to get excited alright!

Spressomon, did you get your dog? If so, how's it doing? VERY interested--- looking into an early winter litter myself! Thanks

Nope...life threw me a curve...and the breeder turned out to be a bit of a jerk. What is it with hunt dog breeders anyway?!

Sorry to hear that Dan.

If and when you're ready, please consider our breeder. We've hunted with them and they've been nothing less than fantastic. I'm happy to put you in touch with her.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but it seems like this part of the forum doesn't get too much action so it should be OK... Plus I miss my pup.

Whoever told you pudelpointers don't shed lied straight to your face. :D

But my family has owned a lot of dogs and more than a few hunting dogs and I adore our pudelpointer. I wouldn't trade one for the world. Not sure if they are easy to find in the southwest though. Did you look at GWP's?

Guess I skimmed your initial post poorly. I see you used to have one. What about wirehaired pointing griffons? They all have similar dispositions.

Long story but since moving from Nevada to Monterey last summer upland hunting has had to take a backseat. After you get used to roaming a state with 88% public land...private club style hunting holds no appeal to me.

If upland hunting gets back to me I'll get another GWP as from what I've learned the gene pool for Pudel's is a little thin. Not saying there aren't good Pudelpointers out there, and it sounds like you have one yourself, but they're just few and far between.

But if we end up staying here...I'm thinking sailboat :D

Yes, we do. But its also from Ontario... Canada.

I live in AZ now, but am from NY. When I was looking most of the good breeders were spread out and few and far between. WI, MI, ID, Ontario stick out to me for some reason.
